Believe it or not, this actually has a technical name: tip-of-the-tongue syndrome — when you know what you want to say, but can’t recall the word for it. It can be amusing to everyone involved (if you have a good sense of humor) or annoying (if you don’t, in which case you should)..It isn’t just a product of old age, or common absent-mindedness. A variety of neurological conditions (for example, post-polio syndrome) can cause this at almost any age. Respond with understanding and compassion, as you would to any infirmity.

My wife does something kind of like this. When I ask her where something is she will say “it’s somewhere.” Thanks dear, that was helpful.
