Woman: Welcome to Worcester, Joan! We've got quite a turnout for you! Voice: She's here! Woman: Glad to see they sent us a seasoned pro, not some kid... Voice: That's Joanie Caucus? Woman: You're not at all what we expected! Man: Yeah, who died and made you coordinator? Joanie: Excuse me? Alex: Quiet down, people! My grandmother can't hear!

Two points: 1- Somebody wanted Joannie’s job. 2-Alex should stay in the car.

The nerd with the folded arms and Alex stand, respectively, for defiance of the older generation and deference to it. The black hostess sees the young peoples’ disappointment and tries to remind them that Joanie is “a seasoned pro,” but she also lets Joanie know she’s out of place here. This is Alex’s chance to define the political moment (not to “stay in the car”; that’s Leo’s way). Will she come through?

@pd- that is why they hired Joannie. You think the nerd with the glasses can handle Worcester?
@DT- Lets hope Alex took a poli sci class at MIT.
Good night, guys.TheSoundDefense about 13 years ago
From my experience, younger folks who actually try to get into politics can be exceptionally arrogant.

When I was in Worcester 50 years ago, in winter with snow all around, the countryside was beautiful.

EXAMPLE OF POLITICAL BRAVADO “… [M]y fellow Americans, major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed.” —King George W. Bush, May 01, 2003, aboard the U.S. Abraham Lincoln, in his renowned “Arrogance Accomplished”, or, rather, “Mission Accomplished” speech.

Now that they improved 290, it’s easy to leave Worcester.

“Blank Glasses” — his psychologic could reason thus: If somebody died to leave Joanie the job of coordinator, then somebody else (Joanie) could die to leave the job to him. Of such is human psychologic.

Since the job requires getting people to work together, I’d say he’s uncoordinated.

Ho-Hum. Another liberal cocktail party masquerading as a political campaign. The last thing the country needs is another Harvard professor trying to translate academic theories into real world actions.

RE: sandfan. The list of Nobel laureates and Pulitzer prize winners who attended Harvard is quite lengthy. All of them have succesfully translated their “academic theories” into real world actions that have advanced the human condition. I didn’t see your name on any of those lists.

One assumes ‘Wooster’.

I’m hoping this becomes a story line about ageism. Alex has already spouted ageist stereotypes about hearing, falling, broken hips, etc., without Joanie showing any sign of having become frail. Now we have the perceptions of this group. Perhaps through it all, Alex will learn a few things

This actually looks to me like Alex is about to take Joanie’s job…

Is it just me, or does the young nerd dissing Joanie look like Duke and Honey’s love child?

Guard to the rescue at Woodstock? I guess while they buzz around Mass, Joanie can play some morning maniac music while she tells Alex about the days of the left wing indians.
And Alex’ll be so impressed that she’ll say, “Oh Grams, I really love hearing your ancient stories, and the music really was better back then.”

Is the woman greeting Joanie supposed to be her old friend Ginny Slade?

A new “generation gap.”
