I just Snorted Coca-Cola outta my Schnoz and all Over my Keyboard! Mssr. Melcher thou art an Evil, Evil Man. (Which would explain WHY Exactly You are on my Comics List in the First Place! :-) Hiya Marg ! Have Fun Y’all! :-)
Speaking as a Conservative Christian college student, I find this strip crude, offensive, irreverent, and thoroughly hilarious. It has its place, although perhaps not among polite society. I discovered it due to hearing about Ginny playing Quittitch…hee hee. For this one, before coming to the caption I was expecting a gun/mugging kind of joke.
This is why God made Photoshop. But a little turp could’ve fixed that tout de suite. . ..BTW George Washington did not father any known biological progeny.
Just looked at a copy of this portrait (see below), and, it is indeed the way Peale painted it (although the “fold” is a bit more emphasized here). Quite different from accidently capturing an embarrassing image with a camera, the artist really had to focus in on every part of the subject. It would be interesting to know what was going through his mind at the time….
And what is going on with his right arm? I mean, it’s not anatomically impossible, but I can’t imagine anyone deliberately holding their arm that way for long.
Since it’s difficult to hold any position long enough for a portrait painter, it appears that he is holding himself with something like a walker (until the comment above I thought it was a cane).
Georgette Washington? Who knew?.Portrait painters had to have a sense of humor. And Mr Melcher is brilliant at finding it. or He’s just hilariously twisted enough to find the humor in art even if it wasn’t intended..Either way, I’m hooked..KUDOS!
Click the zoom here for an enlargement of the full-length painting (excuse the watermark). Enlarged (this length, click to enlarge again), available from here. I guess even this is too risqué for some, who only want it shown from the waist up. Only a week earlier, it was shown this length (must have caved to public pressure). Another (perhaps more famous) portrait of Washington by this artist. Here‘s another, perhaps more familiar to you. First of the 5 works by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here. This is the second one.

I’m not sure which is more alarming…. his trouser crease, or what he’s doing with his hand.

And what’s up with the tiny little arms?

I’m thinking this portrait tells us more about Charles Wilson Peale than it does about old George. The whole pose doesn’t pass the giggle test.

I should have looked lower, but the focus was up north. Mine was diet Coke, but none the less, nearly ruined my Toshiba. Warn me before you do that.
