First, I do wish all a Merry Christmas, But let me be the first to say the “Joy to the World” ending is not worthy the buildup. What happen to the out of the box, nontraditional, fly by the seat of your paints thinking the strip and the cartoonist are famous for. Granted, the bar has been set so high and I just expect to be laughing my head off or be thinking about the tongue in cheek statement made by the art form called Non Sequitur. With this I will say Happy Holidays and go to read “Family Circus” for the traditional warm eggnog type of cartoon.

I hate to be a Bah Humbug – but we didn’t get the Saturday Edition of Newsday today, they skipped right over it and we have Sunday’s paper and comics. So my daughter ( age 5) had me come online to see what happened to the reindeer. Now she’s in tears because the reindeer are going to be eaten by the killer whale or even worse – starve or freeze to death or maybe drown, and the “orphan children all over the world aren’t going to be getting any presents on Christmas and they won’t know that there are people who love them.”

She really thought the Killer Whale was going to tow Santa out to the iceberg, save the reindeer and get the presents to the orphan children all over the world, I myself had put my money on Cap’t Eddie and Flo. Whereas I can appreciate the meaning behind the ending I have to agree with my daughter – SAVE THE REINDEER AND GIVE THE ORPHAN CHILDREN THEIR PRESENTS!!!

At this most joyous time of the year, MERRY CHRISTMAS! Or whichever other religious holiday you celebrate near the winter solstice. Yes, religious! EVERY iteration of the Mid-Winter Festival has its roots in a religion. There is NO secular basis for this holiday.

(I had initially thought that’s where the ending would go, but then when people mentioned Cap’n Eddy, I thought, “oh no!, They’re right…”. But, the lead- in was in the line: “But, without presents, would it be Christmas after all?”… I think that everyone’s spinning around and around buying gifts that the meaning of seeking union with something greater than oneself can’t be seen through the distraction and illusion/mist and smoke… Also, with the religious kinda blending together and secularism becoming a religion of it’s own,… Noone knows how they want to celebrate it)… I must say, my “holy” day is celebrated on October 27, the day my current satguru/divine son of God was born. Perhaps to be more authentic, I need to begin saying “Happy Bhandara!” every October 27th… I usually just put my reserves on hold and wait until the Christmas holiday to celebrate my occasion in quietude… I see Christmas is the time of year we make sure that everyone has everything they need, celebrate the gift of a Master being brought into the world and forgive each other and come together… it would be nice if we could do that all year… Thank you Wiley! HUGS!!!!! Merry Christmas to all!
