Okaaay ? What is the point of this?

In MI we can ski on our trash mounds.

There’s actually a mountain(?) in Marquette that is used for skiing. Well, more correctly, a large hill. Very popular ski site. Just outside of Marquette.

Why are outdoor enthusiasts all about brand-names? One foot in nature; one in the mall. It’s creepy.

Telemark is a style of skiing, not a brand name.

We told this smiling old gent at the noisy desk that our last name was CAMPBELL, as in soup. He patted me on the shoulder and said: “Oh, a Polish family!”

Holy cow, people. Google “Crystal Mountain Michigan” instead of blathering about flat MI is. Way less typing on your part and way less annoyance for the rest of us. Sheesh.

As to the flatness of Michigan, Detroit is actually surrounded by a ring of hills. That’s one reason the suburbs get more snow than the city, The clouds hit those hills and dump the moisture.

Jef Mallet are you from Michigan? Seems there have been a few references.

One of the few precise definitions in geography (seriously, can you tell me the difference between a pond and a lake?. A stream or a creek?) It’s a mountain if it’s over 2000 ft. We don’t have any that high, but we come really close. Mt. Arvon is 1979 ft. high…Nearby, the one once thought to be the highest, Mt. Curwood, is one foot shorter. I’m told that some Yoopers are piling up rocks on the top of Curwood, hoping to make it the highest one the next time they take a reading! Of course, other Yoopers are piling up stones on the top of Mt. Arvon, trying to keep it the tallest……But holy Wa, on Sunday, no matter what, day all root for da Packers, eh?

We have a 100 inches of snow at my house. I am sick of it – there’s still three months of winter to go.

Telemark Skis are cross country skis. The kid misheard Telemark Skis as Telemarskis

In the upper part of the LP there are three ski areas, Nub’s Knob, Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands. All withing about 15 miles of each other. They are about the best for the area.

…and I’ll follow with my other Polish friends, the huskies… (I want to see Frazz skijoring…)

telemark skis are free-heel skis. they’re talking about going cross-country skiing. not alpine skiing. you don’t need a mountain to telemark. flat land and hilly land is just as good for telemarking as mountain regions. do you guys not realize that frazz and miss plainwell aren’t your traditional sport enthusiasts? perhaps you should expand your horizons

This one confused me at first because there’s a Crystal Mountain ski resort in Washington, and even Frazz and Jane couldn’t be so hard-core as to drive here from Michigan.
