Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for December 25, 2011
Transcript:
Luann: "Merry Christmas, everyone! Open your presents!" Mom: "Mine's empty" Dad: "So's mine" Brad: "They're empty boxes, Luann" Luann: "No they're not. Each is crammed full of love and appreciation for my wonderful family" Luann: "Is that not THE best gift EVER?" Mom: "Yes it is, honey" Dad: "It's certainly... economical" Brad: "I took out all the love and appreciation. Want the box back?"

Seems like something that one of the Penny’s would do.

only from the most predictably selfish and cheap teenager in the world…

whayle almost 13 years ago
Y’all are harsh!! She is a teen with no money! How much does she make at her library job?? (Or is it a volunteer position?) I think it is cute!
kfccanada almost 13 years ago
@John Abrams… Perhaps, if you feel you have to use such insulting language in response to a mere teenage cartoon character, you should give up reading comics. This cartoon doesn’t warrant such a response!
kfccanada almost 13 years ago
Perhaps another message in this cartoon is the fact that we’ve all come to expect ( or demand) costly gifts from everyone, including unemployed teenagers. How sad! Luann represents anyone’s daughter…and her entire family is struggling , not just Luann herself. A hefty portion of all Americans are in Luann’s shoes. Why not be more understanding?
kfccanada almost 13 years ago
I love the dad’s response. Actually, I love the Xmas cartoon from 2010 better and have it on my desktop…Dad surveys all the Xmas purchases lying opened and scattered about the living room and mutters .Take that, bad economy!!!!’ Spending is just what the economy needs now, too! Demand creates jobs….
Talker123 almost 13 years ago
And what did Luann get from her family for Christmas? Bet she didn’t go away with empty boxes.
vwdualnomand almost 13 years ago
what a cheapskate.
Sisyphos almost 13 years ago
Brad’s response is practical. Luann’s gifts are practical-er. Merry Christmas!

And the best present that I received was having my son over this holiday.
Doctor11 almost 13 years ago
stands up with a baseball in anger EXCUSE ME, but no bad language, please, and even more so on Christmas.
Doctor11 almost 13 years ago
Merry Christmas everyone! There’s nothing wrong with Luann’s present since it’s the thought that counts.
Red Phantom almost 13 years ago
You all are a bunch of greedy materialistic jerks. What ever happened to “it’s the thought that counts”? Sounds like you don’t care if someone loves you just as long as they give you something.
Phosphoros almost 13 years ago
Brad should “re-gift” the love and appreciation and pass it on. That’s what they’re for!

just the animation
Chuck373 almost 13 years ago
Now, now, people. Luann is not selfish or cheap. She voluteers at the library and reads to children. If money was what she was after, she probably would be dating Elwood. She’s on a low budget. I know the feeling.
Chuck373 almost 13 years ago
A wish for a Merry Christmas to all my fellow Luannalyzers.
jaimeaut almost 13 years ago
Luann is lovable and I love her. No matter what the disgruntled fascists say.
Brenda Osborn almost 13 years ago
That’s all I want from my family!
ewalnut almost 13 years ago
She gave them the emperor’s new clothes.
Brenda Osborn almost 13 years ago
This is one only a Mom could appreciate and I do. Christmas I just want to have my loved ones with me and see the looks on their faces when they open their gifts.

Oh I hope you don’t feel you have to be brave to post here. Most of us are reasonable people and relish different perspectives. If you want to make crude or rude suggestions, then you’ll get some harsh criticism. But if you make reasonable suggestions and you get unusual critics – just figure they’re having a bad day – or a bad life. Meanwhile, here’s hoping that the new year will provide you all with lives that are more promising than this year.
The Old Wolf almost 13 years ago
As we celebrate Christmas across the world, my wish for all of us is that we might keep a spirit of peace and goodwill in our hearts both now and throughout the coming year. Whether through religious or secular practice, may our thoughts and actions be turned to doing all we can to raise the human condition and build a world that works for all mankind, with no one left out.
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
I guess that’s one way to deal with it, but isn’t that putting the burden on everyone else in the world to fix things for you before you’ll bother to take part? One thing’s for sure, waiting on everyone else is one way of ensuring that you’ll never have to change…I think the season, or day, or whatever, is what you make of it. If you dislike the materialism, don’t take part in it. If you find the spiritualism lacking, spend time with people you really care for and would miss if they were gone. It starts with you. :D.Have a happy day, everyone!
The Life I Draw Upon almost 13 years ago
I like LuAnn, and her fellows.
Bless her heart she tried to buy American (like me).
jadoo823 almost 13 years ago
…wow, some harsh comments here today (no different from any other day, mind you..) Still, Merry Christmas, everyone – and Arlo and Janis has a lovely old poem on their website – check it out!

Rag…Discontent is something that no one is able to give you other than you. Others create situations where you have the choice to be content or not, but it is your choice. So why not choose to enjoy some of the more creative commercials, and get a hot chocolate during the “BUY NOW!” jerky ones? You’ll be less bothered that way, as will everyone else making negative and mean comments about LuAnn. Besides, this might be the perfect time for Mom and Dad to reflect about all LA does within the home and for the family and up whatever allowance she gets (and it might just be a ploy on LA’s part to get them to think that!)
AStarofDestiny almost 13 years ago
Thank you! A Merry Christmas to all of you!

I liked it. Reminds that you can give from the heart
Kathe almost 13 years ago
Really nice……thanks and Merry Christmas.
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
I hate to tell you, but mankind has been “discontent” before the invention of TV, radio, telegraph, newspaper, carrier pigeon, or Pony Express, so to blame thievery and riots on commercials is sort of simplistic. Those of us who are easily led will always fall under the influence of someone or something, whether TV exists or not, and I’ve been hearing that society has been going to hell in a handbasket since I was a kid. .During the wartime 40’s when everything was rationed, Christmas may have “meant more” because there was less to have, but that didn’t mean they were thrilled with doing without. People could choose to be discontented or not that there wasn’t meat on the table or a new tires on the car. Some cheated on their ration cards and found a black market butcher or a source for bootleg tires, rationalizing that they deserved it and there was corruption anyway, so what did it matter? Some accepted the sacrifice, even if they didn’t have anyone in the service, and hoped it would benefit someone’s son or daughter, somewhere. .That’s why I said I think it’s really up to you, because there are both types of people out there. You can ignore the importuning commercials and not buy into the Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Brain Control Saturday merchandising plans – not everyone does, BTW. Or you can go opt for that cabin – hopefully you’ll go Thoreau, and not Kaczynski!

Just the kind of Christmas that I enjoy. Family get together for each other’s company.

I think you live on a different planet to mine. Come to Earth and look around. Travel. Maybe move somewhere sunnier. Get new friends. And change your diet. If you are on Planet Earth, then I feel deeply sorry for you, you’re missing out on a lot that this place and people have to offer.
Dconskjk almost 13 years ago
For Christmas this year, I got a nephew. Not exactly cheap, but still reflects that wonderful love and affection for my family
Airman almost 13 years ago
Too tired to be philosophical about Christmas. Get rid of the company, put up my feet and watch a little football, and anticipate a couple of pleasant moments of escape with tomorrow’s cartoon strip…….then back to reality. Cheers, everyone.

Tacky, Luann, tacky… Even a cheap gift is better than an empty box accompanied by platitudes…
Merry Christmas to all, and special thanks to Mr Evans for bringing us his wonderful, funny and insightful strip throughout the year!

Haven’t read this strip for years. Slowly but surely, her tits are growing.
