Since Hobbes was doing Calvin’s homework in the first place, why is he still doing after Calvin bombed his report card?

I loved spend the evenings in my room “doing homework” I had a TV, Stereo and other distractions. I remember doing my homework during commercials. I always wondered why it took until after the tonight show to finish.

Hobbes looks really short sitting in Calvin’s chair. Seems like Calvin’s head would be below the top of the desk. Perhaps this explains the poor grades when Calvin does his own work.

Used to read Dickens instead of doing homwork. Wish I had a Hobbes to clean my house up…..

Well Calvin, Hobbes could go faster and you could spend the rest of the time until dinner reading comic books and eating cookies in your room.

Remember, Hobbes isn’t really doing the homework, Calvin is. Calvin is imagining his buddy doing the homework but Calvin is actually doing it. He’s doing it as he imagines Hobbes would do it. That’s why this strip and the valentines card one is so funny.
