Paige: What are you doing? Jason: Examining the "Lord of the Rings" movie trailer frame by frame and pixel by pixel. Paige: What for? Jason: To be sure they're staying true to the books. I don't want Hollywood messing up this project by changing things or cutting corners. Already I fear they didn't use real undead ringwraiths to shoot this one scene. Paige: I'm going to be ill. Jason: My reaction exactly.

For someone who’s suppose to be very smart Jason really does some stupid things.

Bet he popped a gasket when Two Towers came out. Fellowship I could just go with the flow with the changes they made, Two Towers made me not bother going to see Return of the King (that, and finding out that Saruman’s scene was removed).

The point of an adaptation isn’t to copy everything from the source scene by scene, but rather make it feasible for the screen while managing to still capture the overall spirit of the source. Unfortunately, I just don’t think fantasy is meant for the big screen, there’s simply too much to be covered in even 3 hours of screen time. Hour long episodes on television are an exciting new outlet though.
As for alienating the core fangroup, the overall goal of any adaptation is always to try to strike a balance between the appeal for the long time fan and a complete new comer to the franchise. It’s a delicate balance, easily destroyed (see: The Last Airbender)

Man, some of you either have forgotten what it’s like to be a kid, or else you had truly miserable childhoods…

It’s called creative license – the classic is never good enough. It always has to be improved upon.
A lot of stuff had to be kicked out. Some stuff should have been kicked out but was forced in with a hammer to make it fit even though it made no sense witout its surrounding context. As for Fairmir taking Frodo captive, I saw no point in that at all.

He’d like the extended DVD versions, which have 30 minutes (for Fellowship of the Ring) to 50 minutes (for Return of the King) of new footage. I am looking forward to Jackson’s treatment of The Hobbit this Christmas.

SPOILER COMMENT:
“And some that should not have been forgotten were lost.” Such as, FRODO WOULD HAVE NEVER TOLD FRODO TO GO HOME!!!!

dflak: Yes, Faramir’s change is what made me decide that Jackson simply didn’t care about the fans and just wanted to show off all his pretty CGI sets since it was a pointless side arc that took time away from other scenes. Also doing a complete 180° with the result of Entmoot. Pointless changes that break characters and have nothing to do with “streamlining” the plot. I eventually rented the Extended Edition of RotK and found it much more acceptable than Two Towers had been (still giggle at Denethor running from the basement to the sky tower while on fire).

The kid’s so rational in everything else..like math and physics..but beleives there really are undead ring-wraiths. Hmm…severe break from reality there. That young brain is a little scrambled.

The Trilogy WAS BY FAR ONE OF THE GREATEST series of movies I have ever seen! It became a holiday event for my family, go to the movies for the LOTR each year, dinner and discussion of the movie after. Hope the Hobbit is as well done.

Jason’s having a hard time telling the difference between fiction and reality, and I enjoyed the Lord of the Rings movies and I’m also looking forward to The Hobbit, too.
