And this is leap year.

At least we have the Olympics to look forward to!!

I don’t get it. What resolution? The suspense is killing me! Is this a plot by Wiley, or what? Maybe it’s just that he’s too deep for me.

Urdan Dictionary says a Dirt Nap is to die or be dead. My goal is no dirt nap today. When I break the resolution// me and St. Peter will be talking.

My smart butt cousin from the city, says when a drive by shooting happens, they say the victim took a dirt nap. ( I have got to stop drinking with him.)

“dirt nap” – “to be buried 6 feet under”, “to be dead”. If Phil retired at age 65 and has been making the same resolution for 27 years since then, that makes him 92 now, and running on borrowed time. $10 says that he breaks it this time. (Wiley is not allowed to accept this bet.)

Mr. Miller’s characters are beautifully drawn and tell a story all by themseves. Classic.

“No dirt nap” is implied in all my resolutions. No deep plots (@Three Steps!), just high aspirations.

Raymond Chandler called it “The Big Sleep” … heard it called “Big Dirt Nap” sometime back in the early 60s … by a morbid young lady in one of my art classes. She was the first person I ever met who might have become known later as a “Goth.”

A Dirt Nap…. Ah that sweet slumber under the green sod that brings peace to an otherwise hectic existence. Seems that Bernie is just as successful as Phil at avoiding the eternal sleep. His inner resolute must be working better.

I’m way younger than Phil but I am with him on one point. This election year is making me at least reconsider my options about keeping on keeping on.

I never heard that expression before either.It is kind of like looking at daisies from the flower side rather than the root side.

“Dirt nap” is older than dirt. Cremation avoids the dirt, but not the inevitable. Death is just Nature’s way of telling you to slow down.

I guess Dirt Nap came from mobster origins. I guess I’ve seen too many mobster movies? (er, no…) Either that, or I have an imagination and can figure out what sleeping in the dirt means. Thankfully, I haven’t slowed down that much mentally.

it’s an even bigger challenge since there seem to be debates every other day!!

Just a Nap? Or Eternal Sleep? I’m close, and sort of looking forward to finding out.

Dirt Nap. There’s a first. So I re-read the strip. Enjoyed how old the guys looked and then the light bulb came on..Though everyone’s comments helped confirm Phil resolve not to go to that long sleep of death. .Things we learn from the comics… go slam sand and now Dirt Nap. .

I will make this my yearly resolution as well. The one time I break it, I won’t be around to feel bad about it.

But I don’t start by asking what to give up. I start by asking what I can do to help others (=give alms), and to pray more — and only then ask what I need to do to make it possible (=fasting, or giving up). Much healthier and more positive.
