Give Susie (or the big dumb bruiser bully of his playground) the water balloon. Or let the bully come at Calvin with his fist. In this case, would Calvin then advocate for the moral law? I think so.
Maybe the universe was answering Susieās challenge: āShow me that there is a universal moral law by letting Calvin do something that allows me to beat him into the dirtā¦ā
Firstly, morality is transient, it changes with the mores of the times. What is āmoralā today, becomes immoral tomorrow, and vis versa. Once that is understood, the next lesson becomes instilling the lessons of todayās morality into the peoples that morality affects. Lotās of luck!
We are almost the same age (3 yrs apart) and those sins you mentioned were strongly denounced in my church and camp, too. As female, wearing āmenās clothingā got mentioned also. Bet you were a Baptist!
Jesus Christ taught to love God with all our hearts and minds, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. On those two commandments rests all the Moral Law. But, since we will fail to do that 100% of the time, He did it for us, and then took our sin to the cross. Then He rose again . I know this is just a comic strip, but some of you all were getting quite deep with your comments. God Bless You.
Welcome back, Sharuniboyā¦have missed your rants against western religion. For the record, the Bible does not condemn movies, dances, radio, playing cards, board games, nor water balloons. Obviously those religions arenāt concerned with the Bibleās moral code; instead, they want fear and control over their adherents. (Stands back, waits for itā¦)
Modern organized religionā¦The dictated misinterpretations and purposeful reinterpretations of religious text sometimes by individuals with devious intent upon those desperate for a belief system where individual thought is not required and blind obedience is often expected. BTW, I do believe in a Godā¦just not in āmodern organizedā religion. But religion is a very touchy conversation piece isnāt it (western or otherwise)?
You asked me a couple of days ago (over on Non Sequitur) if I was a creationist, or a creation/evolutionist, or what? I could not answer at that time (too darned busy!). Here is your answer:Do I believe in God? YES. Do I believe in evolution? NO. Do I believe in creationism? NO. Do I believe what the Bible says, and do not try to guess at what it doesnāt say? YES.These positions incur the wrath of secularists, creationists, and confuses everyone who has been influenced more by religion than Scripture. If you dare, ask me for my reasons of any of those thingsā¦
Looks like Calvin is demanding a test of God, that God measure up to his standards. However, in life we discover, as Calvin might, that it is we who need to meet Godās hopes, not vice versa.
His question in the second panel is āIs there a moral law beyond human convention?ā and the answer is no. Moral law is a purely human convention as illustrated in the last two panels.
