I think pork may be bad for the liver? wait… I’m not sure. The Hill’s Science Diet vet prescription c/d cat food for urinary tract issues contains "pork fat mixed mixed tocopherols. I really feel that much oil is bad. I understand that dry cat food is coat in oil to make it more tasty…. Hey. Do an online search for Purdue Vaccination study. The animals receive too many vaccines. You vaccinate a human kid for life, why do pets receive “Boosters” every year? It makes no sense. The drug companies are selling a product.

I was at the Humane Society gift shop looking at canned food. There on the shelf: Really Expensive Cat Food Brand Beef. RECFB Chicken. RECFB Tuna. RECFB Liver. RECFB Kitten. RECFB Salmon.

No, I am not making this up.

Cats aren’t supposed to have pork, as a general rule. They don’t hunt wild boars.

@Tony – cats only eat kosher??

As for my cat – he loves a little taste of pork when I’m slow cooking a Boston butt (or pork shoulder).

Pet food is generally made up the parts of animals that humans don’t eat. There is no part of the pig that humans don’t eat. It all goes into sausage.

My cat has food allergies (rabbit, fish, yeast, beets), so his food choices are severely limited. Many cat foods contain fish oil even if they’re not fish flavored. He does love bacon, though, and pork is one of the few things to which he’s not allergic. His vet told me to go ahead an let him have the occasional bacon treat – I always give him the leanest parts. He’s 17 years old and still going strong, so it obviously hasn’t hurt him.

“They don’t hunt wild boars.” As opposed to cattle, tuna and shrimp?

“There is no part of the pig that humans don’t eat. It all goes into sausage”

    Leftover beef=hotdogs

@AshburnStadiumIn addition to the aforementioned Mark 7, there is Peter’s dream in Acts 10, and the requirements for gentile Christians established in Acts 15.

Yet another Arlo and Janis strip I couldn’t figure out. This is supposed to be humor not Psychology or Religion 101 or whatever today’s strip is. Even after reading all the comments, I still don’t get it.

I want to know how a human being can advertise pet food as “great tasting!” Have they personally tested it?

Times change and our knowledge increases. Today’s pork has been inspected and is free of the worm that was once a danger. It is not nearly as fat as it once was and has been called “the other white meat”. Cured meats (ham, bacon, sausage) present other problems – too much salt and other chemicals. Too much protein is bad for the kidneys. I had a dog with kidney problems and was prescribed a special diet food that looked like lard. Probably not good for other systems and she didn’t last long after that. So for us and our pets, “moderation in all things” is probably the best policy.

I enjoy the cat related strips. Granted, the main appeal of the strip is the interaction between Arlo and Janis, but I think these are fun! While I don’t think the cat strips have been excessive, I do think it would be neat if he was worked into a story line along with the family. Most of the strips with Luddy seem to be stand-alone ones.

@Ashburn: Acts 11:9 and Romans 14:14 are two specific places. Acts 15 has a fuller discussion of the issue.

Nowhere does it say you HAVE to eat pork, of course, just that it’s okay if you do.

Actually — a lot of liver and/or kidney cat food at least used to be pork — not sure about that today. Years ago when we were starving students, the ex had a temp day job where he unloaded several tons of frozen pork kidneys at a 9 Lives processing plant.

Pork is less digestible than beef or chicken. I have read in more than one place that pork fat molecules are apparently larger than those of other meats, making it harder for a cat’s system to properly process them.

This is quite funny. One comic strip can stir up religious banter. Let’s forget the pork issue and just love the Lord our God with all our hearts, souls, and minds.

as a veterinarian for 50yrs. may I comment, let’s not get too anthropomorphic here. Cats have no religion. The Jewish religion is for a part a sanitation code. People in the olden days threw their sewage in the gutter where the freeroaming pigs would eat it, thus transfering many diseases dktrj

You all are making this waayy too hard. In panel 3, Ludwig finds what he just heard astonishing. In panel 4, he has (somehow) asked Janis if this is true. She is searching her catalog of knowledge to see if the answer is in there. Arlo is speaking to Ludwig, asking if Janis has given him an answer. Life isn’t always simple, but in this case…………..
