Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for March 06, 2012
Transcript:
Editor: So what do you think? Jeff: I'm stunned. I can't believe this check is real! I once stole a check from my dad when I was in high school... I made it out to myself for a million dollars and deposited it. It never cleared. Editor: So you've been burned. Jeff: It's how I learned we were in the middle class.

So, he had a bank account in high school?

Not bad. That college internship was a great career head start.

I don’t understand how that Trudeau guy makes so much money. All he does is draw cartoons all day. That can’t be real work. And that girl he married is too good for him. If not for the evidence that it’s not a delusion, I’d say he’s delusional. He doesn’t deserve all that, and I’m looking forward to his downfall.

Becca’s body language indicates that Jeff fascinates her (or at least intrigues and interests her) – why???

Maybe he will deposit it with a broker – and learn a new lesson.

Hi, commenters. A couple of weeks ago I requested GoComics to check on our friend, DylanThomasPI, (they have his email address.) They sent a message to him to check in, but there has been no response. It’s been about 6 weeks since he posted, so can only assume something bad has happened. Like losing an old friend.

No. DylanThomas3.145962 was a true gentleman. He would not have simply abandoned those who enjoyed his company here. Had he grown tired of this, he would have said a proper farewell to those who considered him a friend. That is what good people do. This sudden silence does seem to indicate something untoward may have overtaken him. I hope all will be better and we will see him in the future.

Shouldn’t today’s strip have run before last week’s, not after? .I, also, hope DTPi is all right and will return soon.

I thought Dylan was taking a break; in fact, I thought there had been a discussion sometime back in which he or someone else had posted that he found an occasional little vacation from the conversation was his habit. Dylan was the one whose posts first drew me to this discussion, a good man and a good mind.

Dylan? that’s a shame. He wrote some very interesting and at times quite witty observations…yeah, I rolled. Sic semper.I guess.

Thanks for the report about DT pi. It feels like bad news.However. we can always hope he’ll be back-From whatever is keeping him away.

Agree with GTphile.I think Dylan(pi) would have announced his intentions if he was taking a planned break, as he did before.
SCAATY_423: well said!

Some of the commentators who missed Coyoty’s self-mockery are showing their own “delusional” tendencies in worrying about Pi the same way they worry about Jeff.
An even odder delusion, though, is to look for camaraderie among readers of satire. Not even Jeff (or Pi) would expect that from the world of Duke, Zonker, and Becca.

“Heroes and Zeroes” (nickname for a Harvard course in the humanities)
Just as Becca makes that check fabulous by putting a number before all those worthless zeroes, so Trudeau entertains us with his worthless heroes

I agree with pd, I think it may have gone over somebody’s head that coyote was mocking the people who resent Jeff’s fictional success.
As for the people who fear the worst, they can take comfort with DT’s spiritual underpinnings knowing he’s where he wants to be most, filling in Daisy, Lacy and Old Man Slackmeyer on what everyone is saying on the forum. For those feeling a sense of loss, there are 2000+ comments in 6 mos, that can be revisited and will remain online for eternity. In fact, I’m sure DT would be thrilled if someone found a red headed editor to publish " DT’s Encyclopedia of Comments and other Observations " It’s sure to put the Red Rascal aaand Roland Hedley’s " Book of Tweets " to shame.
On the other hand, he may just be in jail (Occupy thing).
