HATES FREEDOM
Are these comments for real? Conservative conspiracy theories have hit a new low. Earth to conservatives: Obama is not a Muslim, and has not intervened in the case of Nidal Hasan. The case HAS been investigated (of course) and he’s scheduled to stand trial in June on 13 counts of premeditated murder, with the prosecution seeking the death penalty.
Maybe if the “press” in this country hadn’t been looking for a fight with any Arab or Muslim nation because they’re “just wrong”, since 1948, some of our conflicts in the MIddle East and south Asia might never have taken off? Amazing how only one country in the region always gets a “hall pass” in our media.
As to the actual statement in the ‘toon, maybe if we weren’t IN Afghanistan, no Afghans would have a reason to shoot Americans, or be getting shot??
^ Also look up under Maj. General Smedley Butler. He was the accuser, a Roosevelt supporter who Bush allegedly approached about the coup. BTW, nobody was prosecuted in the end, but it is a fascinating case.
Everytime you post, you show your ignorance. Now you also shown you are functionally illiterate. The right panel represents an Afghan who has killed foreign troops (yes, there are other nationalities in addition to Americans stationed in Afghanistan). Afghanistan has a corrupt leader, who was imposed on the Afghani people by foreign powers meeting in Bonn- 3,200 miles from Kabul- in 2002. How would any person feel about his country being occupied by foreign troops that are propping up a corrupt and incompetent government?
the post with 10 steps to fascism is very important. This needs to be read and remembered. All 10 are in place. president Obama recently did a stronger veto of indefinite detention, but fascism is alive and well in the the tea party movement.
It’s a little more complicated than good vs evil. During the Great Depression, just like today, there were two schools of thought on how to get out of it. One side was direct government intervention (Roosevelt’s New Deal) and the other was letting free market capitalism sort itself out (weed out the weak, stronger businesses will prosper and everyone will benefit). Bush was on the free market side, and saw Fascism as his primary example. The Nazis were capitalists, allowing those with the drive and money to succeed without government interference and rescue the economy (as long as they were Nazis themselves). He saw Roosevelt’s plan as socialist, and even though more people went to work in a shorter period, it removed power from the upper class. Essentially, many of his peers saw the coup attempt as an act of patriotism, it is only with hindsight that we can see what the true ramifications of siding with Hitler and Mussolini would have been. In 1933, Hitler was still a “good guy” on the world stage, unless you were Jewish. In that case, your warnings, like those of the Warner Brothers studio heads, were seen as proof you were a Communist. So Bush had plenty of support among the bankers, industrialists, and Congress, and so was not even given a slap on the wrist. They saw him as a hero for standing up to a socialist dictator, not a fascist insurgent.
Bush was not involved in the attacks, but he was warned before hand and did nothing. That pause when he was “reading” at the kindergarden when he was told? That was him realizing he did bad. He did VEEEEEEEERY bad.
We’re hearing about Bales’ defense arguments because he’s being tried. None of the Afghans who killed Americans (or other Afghans) have ever been tried so they have no defense for the media to report
He was warned osama wanted to hijack planes, but took no meassures to step up securityhttp://www.nytimes.com/2002/05/16/us/bush-was-warned-bin-laden-wanted-to-hijack-planes.html
Actually, I didn’t. It’s well known that FDR was also an early supporter of Hitler and Mussolini. He himself came from a wealthy family and stood to make money from a successful German recovery. However, I was simply referring to a specific incident which could have had extreme long range effects had it been successful. Hence my fascination with the era I mentioned before: there were no clean hands by the end of WWII.
