If the story was being told by a book he’d understand…

The darned sound tracks are so loud, you NEED to read lips!Or have sub-titles.

@NotgivenI don’t think close captioning works depending on the connection you have. I have my HD conencted via HDMI and CC has never worked through that.

It would help if actors would learn not to mumble. It would also help if soundtrack designers would remember that we want to hear the words.

TV shows are targeting teens and people in their early twenties (which I find ironic, since that is not where the money is), but we will have the last laugh. They are destroying their hearing and will be deaf in their thirties.

I have a hearing loss but not that bad. I can function when I don’t have my hearing aids. (Hearing loss doesn’t mean deaf, mine if frequency loss in certain ranges). My wife has trouble hearing the tv sometimes. Thinking it was the fact everything has gone to HiDef TV with surround sound etc, I asked a neighbor who has that set up and they said they have trouble hearing shows on tv. I finally asked my audiologist and they said they have “20/20” hearing and they have trouble also. So its seems a lot of people are having trouble hearing television shows now.

I wonder if it is the fact so many movies are made for theaters with big sound setups. My wife and I don’t have trouble with shows like news or older shows, mainly the movies with loud sound effects. We hear the effects better than the people.

The mumbling is one thing, but I’m more irritated with the sighs (Blue Bloods) and chewing. Those are loud and clear.

I difinetly heard Donald Duck curse. It was the one when he, Goofy and Mickey Mouse and others were at the beach. Donald Duck got a starfish stuck on his tail feathers, and I kid you not, he said: “Get off of me you s.o.b.!” But he said it straight out.

That’s why we use closed-caption. It is especially useful with British programs where the accent may be very broad.

Donald could get away with it because he talked funny.
