I suppose it was a trip to an adult hockey camp from my wife – completely out of the blue and totally appreciated. Second would be a beat up old tuba my parents found in a junk shop, bought, and fixed up for me just because they saw it and thought of me. It is an awesome instrument.
My graduation present when I graduated from High School. My mom and I went to Tuscon to visit my aunt. From there we took a 2 day train trip to Mexico City to visit my cousin and his wife and daughter. He was kind of up there in the Xerox Corporate ladder and that’s where he was “stationed.” His wife was born in Mexico City. They lived in a penthouse surrounded by glass windows and you could see the city from every room in the house. They took us all over the place to sight see! It was a GREAT TRIP!
My engagement gift was a white gold cross with a diamond at the center. My father-in-law and his brother grew up poor. When they had made their way in the world they bought their mom a pair of diamond earrings. (Her first and only diamonds) She died a short time after that and they had the diamonds put into two crosses to be cherished forever.

What is the best gift you ever received (not counting your kids and spouse and blah blah blah)?

Bicycle, when I was 11. I still cycle – the best way to travel (if you’re not going very far).

An electric steamer – I didn’t know there was such a thing, but it fits well with my desire for low-fat cooking.
