Good morning, Villagers. On Saturday I went to the Turkish Day Parade, an annual parade here in New York. I stood near the reviewing stand. It was nice to see the floats and the groups: the Janizary band, the oldest military marching band danced and played wearing fantastic costumes; also folklore groups from the Black Sea Region of Turkey as well as groups from Azernaijan, Central Asia and even American Indians in full Plains regalia doing a powwow.
Unfortunately, with all the walking and standing I did my feet ached terribly (I have an artificial hip and a metal rod in my thigh). I had to walk really slow, but I managed to take the subway home and climb the 41 steps to the street (luckily I live next to the subway station; unluckily my station has no elevator or escalator). I took some pain relievers and rested and the next day felt as good as new. It’s rare that I use the pain relievers – I usually pretend I don’t have or need them.
Arye…….thanks for sharing your day! You get to go to the most unusual events! I enjoy hearing about all the cultural things you see! You have a great positive attitude about those pain meds! But……if you really need them, it’s good to know you have them.
Our prayers are with you today, Slim. Good luck! And enjoy your lunch!
Oh, I forgot to mention: At the Turkish parade I wore a tee shirt where I had marked the logo of one of the Turkish futbol (soccer) teams in their colors, blue and yelow. Young Turkish kids I met were asking to film me yelling out their team’s cheer.
And Sunday I went to a meeting of Galician from southern Poland, not northern Spain) jewish genealogists, so I wore a tee shirt where I had marked a map of Galicia with some of its cities (Krakow, etc). A young man on the subway asked to photograph me so he could send the photo to his Polish friends.
Good Afternoon Everyone!.David: Welcome back!.Slim: I hope all your tests went well, and that you have a most filling and enjoyable lunch afterward..Arye: Your day sounds like it was a lot of fun. There are times I wish I lived closer to a large city with such a diverse culture. Then I go out and sit on my glider and enjoy the trees and the open spaces and am glad I live in the country!.SweetBill: Have a safe trip and we will “see” you in a few days.
Got back about 2:30. Actually it was a “procedure” to get my heartbeat in snc. Turned out to be only a try. Doctor zapped me four times without success. My memories of it? One second i’m talking to the doctor. The next second the doctor was gone i asked the nurse when I was going to get it done, and she said it already was finished.I woke up clear-headed, no drowsy heavy eyelids. I was ready to go home, but they kept me there for a couple of hours as a precaution. At least they brought me a lunch from the cafeteria.
