What’s more sad than that is that most sacrifices during the last 50 years had nothing to do with protecting American soil.

If only we could believe in non violent ways to solve our conflicts. It isn’t only ‘those in power’, most of the human race is complicit by our very inability to manifest our visions of peace ways. Easier said than done.

thank you Breen and Thompson, simply and well said. I too am a disabled vet, as is my son, and thanks to all you work with, trivers!

treesareus: you perfectly summarize the ignorance (OKay, blatant stupidity) in our nation today that PUTS our nation, and our military at risk.

To my comrades-in-arms: I salute you. To those who have fallen, may you have an eternity of reward for your sacrifice. For those who suffer now, from trying to ameliorate the sufferings of others, I pray for healing.

For those who MUST take at gunpoint that which belongs to others, for those who feel obligated to defend their treasure rather than share it, may God judge them fairly and as mercifully as they treat others.

In the world, some people are bullies. Bullies understand strength. They tend to pick on people who they think are weak. We need our military to protect us from the bullies of the world.

Honor the people who died or were injured in these endless wars, but we should all ask ourselves just one question. If I may paraphrase an episode of M.A.S.H, “What were they fighting for?”

Green Party platform proposal: Give disabled veterans what they need – and stop disabling more.

why did they fight? to live in a land where they they were the same rank as every one else, where no one was "better then any one, where they could make up their own minds about stuff like religion, where no one told them what kind of close they could wair, where to smoke, what kind of car to drive, or light bulb to use. Where they would be given the facts and be able to make up their own minds. I think the best way to remember them is not to throw it all away.

to hippogrif, I am certian that Hittler would agree with you compleatly. As a disabled vet what we need is for you to turn on your brain and stop following for every fool idea that comes a long. the the would be conqurers would apperate it if the rest of us just layed down and rolled over. Why is it that you talk to the defenders and not the agressors and assum that any one who puts on a uniform is a blood thirsty fool? when you were at school did you just give your lunch money to any one who asked?

ledo: I see that with you, Non Sequitur is not just a comic strip, but a way of life. I was born one month after the Third German Empire. Don’t bandy about the name of your Leader like that. I know better. And what is “apperate”? It isn’t in my dictionaries. Same for “assum”.

I never gave my lunch money to anyone but the lunchroom cashier, but some of my friends are still suffering from this country trying to take over former French colonies in southeast Asia and defeat a former US Army captain who wanted more freedom for his country. Their kids are suffering from IED and RPG and need help their rulers still claim is imaginary, and their grandkids are slated to go through the same in a country in which we overthrew the only freely elected leader they ever had and installed a pretend emperor puppet who was thrown out because a religious tyrant seemed preferable.

Forget “God bless America”, I am working for an America that is a bit more worthy of God’s blessing.
