I don’t quite get what they see differently, but my horse will pass up the best looking grass for this weedy stuff, and then go for dandelions, eucalyptus, even pickleweeds. Gotta be something wrong with that stuff. Bermuda grass on lawns, it seems is quite good, the stuff on the golf course, not so much
Most importantly, grass is chiefly composed of cellulose, which vertebrates in general cannot digest at all. Such vertebrates as do eat grass despite that (including Unicorns, it would seem) can do it only because they have big ’ol bacteria farms in their guts where the resident microorganisms eat cellulose and poop carbs. (Of course, unicorns, being magical, may employ some other mechanism instead; the subject is shockingly under-researched.) Be that as it may, humans simply don’t have the required machinery to pull the trick off, and find grass to be no more nutritious than sawdust.
There’s something about fresh-mown timothy, alfalfa or clover that smells so heavenly (pun intended). I remember stacking bales and bales of that and wishing it was more edible. ::grins:: Well, edible from my viewpoint, that is!

And she doesn’t eat them raw and off the lawn. Except maybe that one time around three years old…
