So much for flask’s gun. If she didn’t keep underestimating every single enemy she makes, she might actually be successful instead of a constant string of failures.

So I was wrong, they are going to fight, but I still think Aaron has something surprising up his sleeve. This is by far one of the best graphic novels to date.:-)

Truly amazing how he shows Flask’s surprise without us seeing her face. The exclamation mark created by her movement is a great touch.

Panel four not only has Wally’s over-the-top attack [those eyes are incredible, and the claws? He means BUSINESS!]; it also has that jarring touch of reality. Because most of the characters resemble cartoon animals its easy to sub-consciously think we’re watching a cartoon. But the reality here is that these are former human beings mutated into animal/human shapes. They’re still just as human inside. Thus, we get used to thinking of them as cartoons, but are suddenly reminded that this strip is set not in a “cartoon” universe, but in our own, very real universe, as it someday, may even be. And that, is jarring.

He may mean business, but I think the little guy’s only hope is that they accidentally stumble against a critical lever or button.

Ok, so how many of you are right now opening your email, typing in Aaron’s address (aaronneathery @ gmail . com) and entering a bid for the original artwork for today’s strip? How many of you desperately NEED the ORIGINAL artwork simply because of panel 3 alone? How many of you are thinking, “naw, this is going to still be available when I get around to it next year?”Well, how many?

Is no one else thinking that Flask deliberately provoked him, for reasons of her own? Remember, she wants to die. And she’s been silently weeping this whole time: she’s conflicted about what she’s doing..In any case, she’s a warrior, and now it’s on. This is going to be awe-inspiring.

If Flask had a tail, no doubt she would have noticed Wally’s tail, thrashing from side to side, just before the attack.

Wally was ready to fight the minute he walked in.Notice that he restrained himself until he was hit AND THEN TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK! He has fulfulled his moral obligation as a pacifist and can now retaliate freely.

I love that panel 4. those eyes! that very expressive tail! And that leap Never get a cat mad enough to go into attack mode!SHe is bigger but she doesn’t have a tail, and probably hasn’t gone hand to hand for years. Good Wally!! Kick her good, claw and bite, scratch and chomp!

her hand doesn’t look like she has claws and it should be very frightening to go up against anything that looked as mad as panel 3! I think she won’t know what hit her!

Ok, as I said before – don’t ever underestimate people! You have NO idea how a person will react when provoked!

Here’s an example – true story! In HS, I would play football with my boyfriend and his buddies (I was the only female in the group). One time, the ground was slippery due to a light rain earlier. I was blocking the quarterback (he was about my height) and he decided instead of passing the ball, he would rush me. Now, he didn’t push me hard but because of the wet ground, I slipped and fell. All I saw was RED! I didn’t see his face or anything, all I saw was the color RED all around me. Then I heard him pleading for me NOT to hit him and I stopped – I had grabbed him by the collar and had my fist in the air ready to punch him in the face. Whoa, that was not me! I am definitely not a fighter – yet I was ready to beat him up! We all laughed about it afterwards, and still no one believed I was capable of that.

    Again I say, don’t underestimate people… ;)

    Wally’s eyes say……“I’LL KILL YOU!”.

Notice how his eyebrows are resembling devil horns now? I think Flask has unleashed the demon within him that he so ardently controls.

Ok. This has to be 100% intentional on Flask’s part. The condesention is one thing, but the slapping is definitely a goad. I don’t know if she is playing for time or what. She was so determined to have her revenge I can’t believe she would risk having Wally actually take over. Something is going on here, but what? ;-)

There definitely has to be a balance. Yeah, Centaur. I hadn’t quite thought of that. But it fits. The Horse and Rider are, or course, only symbolical. And not even literally symbolical. That is, that there’s a distinct, black and white division between Horse and Rider. They really do overlap quite a bit. It’s ironic you should mention the Centaur, because I’ve lately been giving thought to the deeper Spiritual meaning behind such hybrid mythic creatures as the Griffin and the Minotaur.

Back in Houston.. Wotta week! Oyoyoy.. Talk about peaks and valleys.. Anthrocon was well worth the trip. My best to Jenner who was gracious and supportive beyond belief, LevelHead (whose mastery of wordplay is every bit as uncanny in person), Coyoty (who managed to wrangle a few spoilers from me, dammit), Fenrisulfr, Ron Bauerle, and especially the wonderfully kind surfstuff55.. There were a surprising number of Endtown fans present as well who don’t actually post here. If you’re reading this, and you know who you are, please do join in. I also got a chance to meet quite a few celebs, too.. Bill Holbrook (Kevin & Kell, Safe Havens), John Lotshaw (Accidental Centaurs), Mike Kazaleh (Captain Jack), and Andy Runton (Owly).. Extremely awesome and overwhelming.. I’m biting the bullet over the photos that will eventually be posted because I’m not particularly crazy about pictures of myself, but it can’t be avoided.. I’ll be working with TSOJ and surfstuff55 on bringing you those over the next couple of days. Thanks to every last one of you who was present or there in spirit or just hanging out here.. Without you, Endtown wouldn’t exist.
