I’ve always said that pregnancy and childbirth brings out a woman’s true colors. Sure, it hurts, but there are drugs if you can’t handle that…. no need to be mean.(I’ve given birth both with drugs to be induced and an epidural, and also naturally. I’d much rather do it naturally, but that’s me. And no, I never yelled at my husband or got mean.)
The pain of childbirth is a productive pain – you work through it in the hope that the outcome will be glorious, And – most of the time – it is. Ask any new mum about the pain, when her new life is in her arms. She’ll almost always tell you that it was all worth it. Too many drugs can work to prolong the process and thereby make it more painful, not less.
Think of it (for the gentlemen) like a really bad episode of constipation. You know there’s only one way to solve your little problem, and it’s going to hurt like who-knows-what. But once you get through that painful stage – the relief is going to feel wonderful!
I think it’s worse for an older mother. The body becomes less flexible and yielding, plus the recovery time is longer. Mother Nature would like us to have our babies in our teens, not our forties or more.
In my day we married young and had our kids young, and I’m sure that’s why mine popped out like shelling peas. I was up and about within an hour of one (morning) birth and after a night’s sleep following the evening one.
It’s a different world nowadays, I know. But not necessarily better in every way.

I’m no expert, but I’ve seen a dog have puppies, and she sure acted like it hurt.

I raise goats and work on a dairy farm – goats and cows feel pain when they’re giving birth!

Seems strange to me that almost everything that comes natural for humans to do is either painless or pleasurable – except child birth! Why?

We women ask for painrelivers or kill the husband. Animals have to endure the pain.

Genesis was witten by MEN. Try to pass a melon trough a hole the size of an apple, whatever the mammal species…

Whether they feel “pain” or not, they are obviously “laboring”. I think it comes more naturally for most animals than it did for Nina in A3G.
