I wonder who will fire Alex – but then it wouldn’t matter to her, would it?

Once Alex is done firing everyone they want her to fire, the CEO will fire her.

I know this is “just” a comic strip, but I’m amazed, but not surprised, at the depiction of a company which (companies are NOT people) hires a top executive at a hefty salary, and then proceeds to lay off the people who do the actual work, including a very valuable employee. Executives, seriously, are a dime a dozen. Good employees who know what they are doing and contribute daily, are not.

If you remember, Betty is being "downsized " because she rated the company only 4 out of 5.

Been there, done that, this strip is depressing me right now. So many bad memories. Except the last one, the manager hired to fire us got fired when he finished his task. And the company ended up rehiring in a hurry when it discovered that five brand new and cheap young people cannot do the job of twenty three experienced ones.

I used to work for a wonderful company that treated us as humans, not “human resources”. They were bought out in 1989, and over 130 of us still get together once a year to talk about what a great place it was to work.

24 years, actually; but the point’s the same. And according to the occasionally reliable Wikipedia, someone actually built one of the dang things just to see if he could do it.

so, in this song, how did the worker get the engine block, the body parts, for god’s sake- the frame past security?

My question is, after all these years, why Delainey and Rasmussen decided to take Betty out of the domestic sphere and give her all this tsouris? I wouldn’t care but the crowbar insertion of her supposed best friend Alex as her boss and downsizer seems quite a stretch. Is this just so Betty can become a writer?

I agree with those who think Alex will herself be fired once she is done firing all the most valuable employees. Meanwhile, Betty will find a much better job elsewhere. That is the place where Betty and Alex’s friendship has any chance of re-kindling.

She said that she could stay for 3 months, why would she need security today?

@jeffc42 Networking. Companies hire by networking not ability. Okay, not all companies, but a lot.

Having Security accompany you out is actually for your protection. That way, if anything happens you have a witness that you’re not responsible.

Betty has become a “soap opera” and man, now I really empathize with Betty. Wonder how the cartoon will evolve. I hope Betty gets to fulfill her writer’s dreams and Alex will probably get laid off with everyone else because the company will fold. They fired too many & production will go down because too much pressure & work load will be laid on the remainder. Those left to DO all the other jobs will reach a level of incompetency.

It’s “The Peter Principle” in effect. It’s a belief that in an organization where promotion is based on achievement, success, and merit, that organization’s members will eventually be promoted beyond their level of ability. The principle is commonly phrased, “employees tend to rise to their level of incompetence.”

Think about how Alex got her job in the first place. Wasn’t because she was competent, it was because she knew how to “impress” those in authority, a true con artist. “Acumen” remember?

Anyway, hope the writers agree with me and show Alex what a loser she really is and that Betty truly is the winner here. She’ll become a best selling writer and Alex will be on welfare or homeless on the street begging for food where she “eventually” belongs.

I’ve said my piece and somehow see it coming to fruition!
