There are certain situations when spanking is acceptable…that’s one of them. There’s no way I ever would have gotten away with saying that to my parents. Not at 19, not at 15, and certainly not at 6.

I don’t know if this strip is current but nowadays they label kids like Calvin with ADHD and medicate them. Going through it with my now 13 year old son, never left the terrible twos but quite intelligent.

That came out a bit wrong. The doc wanted the samples collected and was told to send them via the chute direct to haem.

It was very funny, this is a comic, and the comedy is tied with irony. If the people commenting here can not understand that then you truly have forgotten just what it was to be a child.

One of the most incredible things about Watterson is that HE did not forget!!

Calvin, you sure do have a big mouth.

Calvin has a strong detestation of baths resulting in intense aversion and violent antipathy. Apparently, Calvin is so upset that his extensive vocabulary has abandoned him temporarily.

Oh Calvin… Baths are GOOD for you!

All my kids did this. And then they same when it was time to get out!

Calvin’s father is a wimp.When I was Calvin’s age, if I ever talked to Mom like that, the sound of my father’s thumping footsteps up the stairs would have been enough to make me shut up.

When I was young getting me out of the tub was the hard thing for Mom and Grandma.

I’ve seen semi-intelligent people seriously discussing the meaning of comic strips.

She needs a hazmat suit to bathe Calvin – boy have things changed, although I have to admit that my favorite cleaning method for many, many years has been to take a shower. Should make a statue to the guy who invented it and also to the guy who invented coffee…

I remember our difficult, problem child. But he enjoyed baths. He took a lot of tantrums though. Now he travels all over the U.S. on job sites.

this kid needs some serious tranquilizers and/or anti-psychotic medication.

Kids, people in general, don’t want to be told to stop doing what they’re enjoying, whether to get into the tub or out of it. Waterston exaggerates for comic effect. Spanking is not necessary nor right; it teaches might makes right. What we want is to teach good decision making.

It looks like mom got a bath as well as Calvin!!
