Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for August 02, 2012
Transcript:
Tiffany: "I hear you plan to take drama at the local junior college" Luann: "Yeah. Why, are you too?" Tiffany: "Me? Nooo. Don't need to waste my time on stuff I already know" Luann: "You are good at being 100% fake" Tiffany: "Plus, I've already been in a major film, so" Luann: "I wouldn't put "zeye" on my resume if I were you" Tiffany: "Zeye" Flopped 'cuz they cut my scenes" Luann: "Really? A two-hour dud could be saved by adding 8 seconds of Tiffany?"

Poor Tiff. I think sheâs trying to convince herself. This is one instance where I think Simon Cowell would be very helpful

I wonder what they said about Zeye on the Rotten Tomatoes website.
Harryfan over 12 years ago
Thatâs okay Tiffany, 20 years from now Zeye will become a cult classic and then you will be famous. As long as they restore your 8 seconds.

Sometimes you really try to like someone like Tiff, but often they just end up being very trying. Someone yesterday (Ottodesu?) asked if all girls named Tiffany are unusually self centered. Iâll back him up on that, even to the exter that their fathers often call them Princess as well. I blame the parents for raising little empresses. Note: not all Tiffanys are spoilt, but there is a website called âgirlsnamedTiffani dot comâ.

A person could be nice to Tiffany butâŚshe would never notice. Sheâs bent on having an extended âpity partyâ so one should just stand back and let her. Luann is a little snotty here but who could blame her. Perhaps she should just âoverkillâ her expressions of sympathy until Tiffany gives up .
JennyGee over 12 years ago
This is just Evans trying to retcon the fact that Tiffany already did all kinds of grunt work to get her part whereas Luann believes sheâs entitled to fame and Juliard because she wants it. Itâs sloppy.

Her expressions of sympathy? Sheâll just try to get Quillâs address.

Luann makes a good point by accident. Drama and acting is about playing a part â looking and acting like someone else. In other words you need to be good at being 100% fake. Also an aspiring actress needs to make the best of all her assets â skill, traing, natural ability and looks. She needs to be able to present herself. Tiff is unlikely to learn anything from anyone, but Luann would benefit by climbing down from her high horse and learning a couple of things from Tiffany.

Luann is indeed being very cattyâwhich is to say, insecure and teenagedâhere, but then there really is no reason to like TiffanyâŚ.
Gerry Lee over 12 years ago
Yes Luann, even your comic strip can be saved by 8 seconds of Tiffany:)

It appears that Luann is no longer intimidated by Tiff. About time.

Not that there is anything wrong with it, but why is Luann settling for Junior College? Is this the set up, so that Greg can keep her at home and not alter the strip dynamics too much? I think having Luann move away from home and experience life as a college freshman would be a great shot in the arm to this strip. A whole bunch of brand new drama and insecurities.

â..at the local junior collegeâ? Couldnât come up with a fake name for the school, like Pitts Junior College?
arsmall over 12 years ago
Iâm sensing a graduation in the near futureâŚLuann had matured alot, but still a teen, Greg and move her out of high school it will WORK!! Do it Greg, do it!!!

Iâm confused. Why is Tiffanyâs actual hard work and participation in a major motion picture (flop or otherwise) completely worthless, but Luannâs vague plan of maybe one day taking acting classes at the local community college is an inspirational guide to others? Evans can keep trying to convince us Tiffany is the evil one, but sheâs the only one who goes out and takes active steps towards achieving her dreams, even if they donât always work out, while Luann sits home complaining and whining and sniping at people who dare to be up front about who they are and what they want.

Luann, let me ask youâŚyou and TiffanyâŚwhich one of you has been in a movie and who hasnât?
I have a saying â âA One Hit Wonder is one more hit than most people get.â
imbaldeagle over 12 years ago
Letâs see â what experience did these girls have in show business? Well, Luann was a star in the West Side Story high school drama â Tiff was⌠uh⌠oh yeah â had a âkey roleâ in the Eyez of Zeye movie â (backup stunt double for the actress who plays Zeyeâs friend). Yeah, thatâs certainly a key role :-(.She even admitted to Crystal that she was ânot IN it exactlyâ but at least she made some friends and may have been in a crowd scene.

Why are Tiffâs eyebrows in her hair?

you need both to succeed as an actress ⌠i think. an EGO that can take endless rejection and rationalize it away (like Tiff) and at least some training (like Luann). Just a little opposing dialog here. They both have a certain skill. You have to have pluck, luck, and some talent.
JennyGee over 12 years ago
Her good friend Crystal was making fun of her for having a tiny part in the movie and the fact that she was doing stuff like getting coffee for the stars of the film (all of which Tiffany did enthusiastically, it seems). Seriously, reverse the dialog in todayâs strip and itâs more accurate considering that girl who wouldnât go out with Greg in hs⌠I mean Tiffany⌠is supposed to be the villain because weâre told as much.

@Miles Hoffman â I sure remember when they had to give the award to The Duke because he never got one and was about to leave us. The other trouble with Midnight Cowboy â who do you give the award to â Hoffman or Voight â a tough call.

âZeye flopped âcuz they cut my scenes.â Tiffâs gotta be more desperate than dumb. Nobody is THAT dumbâŚâŚâŚ.

How could a two hour dud be saved by adding 8 seconds of Tiffany?-You know, Luann might be right. It might take ten seconds.(Why is my tongue so firmly stuck in my cheek?)

âTiffany just wants to be a starlet.â-No, she wants to be A CELEBRETY!!!!

âOne day when theyâre all finally mature and grown up Luann and Tiffany will end up being best friends.â-I heard a fellow tell a class at high school that after graduation 90% never see each other again, or that they never see 90% of their old classmates. I know that number isnât true for me, but it IS true that many of the people you were once with daily for some four years are people you only see at class reunions or in passing on the street. Many of them are people you are glad to not see again.
rvonluchen over 12 years ago
At least no one is blaming Tiffany for the film being a dud.

imbaldeagle over 12 years ago
A reader on another site posted this idea, which I thought has a lot of merit â so Iâm reposting it here:.Greg can use the Junior college idea to add an extra dimension to the strip. Itâs common for high school students to take courses at a Junior college while still in high school. Since this school is supposed to have a good drama department, Luann could still be in high school, but take drama courses, voice lessons and be in college productions. This way Greg doesnât have to create a whole new cast of charactersâjust one or two, and at the same time Luann can grow up little and have some interesting new experiences.
