Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for August 11, 2012
Transcript:
Luann: "Mom, what's more important in life: finding true love or achieving something amazing?" Mom: "Some would say finding true love IS an amazing achievement" Luann: "That's a wise-sounding-but-useless nonanswer" Mom: "That's all I've got for an impossible-to-answer-depends-on-a-hundred-things question"

No such thing as true love.

Ah, how nice: "Mother-Daughter âboundingâ.
Meanwhile, after a hard dayâs work, old Frank drags himself home half alive, only to be greeted with: âDad I need some money for School clothesâ, and âHon? The toiletâs backed up againâ.

Ok, thatâs deep. Suggests that Greg is no longer just phoning it in.

Whatâs important in life is to be something to the world, whatever that may be, whether itâs becoming a spouse (like Luann apparently wants) or becoming CEO or U.S. president (like Delta wants) or whatever else someone wants to do. We all have different life paths to follow, something that Luann will have to realize.

Nancy, dispensing parental wisdom; Luann absorbing it. Maybe.

Well Luann, there are these receptors in your brain, hang around guys and they kick in and you have what is known as bonding. It presents as obsessive fixation.

yeah, for women finding âtrue loveâ is often their greatest aspiration, sadly. Youâre a horrible person if you say they should aspire to something else, but then classically women realize âhow foolish they wereâ when theyâre divorced 20-30 years down the line.

Luann. ..You couldnât have simply listened and then thanked your mom for her insight? Her answer might not apply to you now, but someday you will realize that there is more to see in the world than just your own point of view.

From my own experience, find a good friend ⊠they are rare and worth cherishing. Next, work real hard at being someone you (and others) can like. From there, if you are successful, all else follows. You will be able to love and be loved.End of rant.

I bet Nancy had way more fun as a teenager than Luann does.

Is it just me, or does Luann have a better figure than Tiffany in todayâs strip? She seems pretty âput togetherâ.

tegm âThis may sound trite, but I think itâs something people donât really think about. Not to quote Freud, but Iâma quote Freud, he had said âItâs hard to find happiness within oneself, and itâs impossible to find it anywhere else.â "-âIt is difficult to find happiness within oneself, but it is impossible to find it anywhere else.â -â Arthur Schopenhauer -Of course, Freud may have said it too â me not know â and I agree with the sentiment.

Nancy isnât even going to pretend to care, and just phones in a non-response without even bothering to look up from her paperwork. I guess balancing her checkbook is more important than having an actual conversation with her daughter during a confusing time in her daughterâs life.

I think Luann is just trying to understand Deltaâs choices. Hoping Mom has insights.

Seems like Jiminy Cricket singing the words to
âWhen You Wish Upon A Starâ would be appropriate here.

Wisdom? Somebody thinks theyâre wise? Love, like wisdom, requires facts. Information. Like the kind Mojitobaby has! Thatâs why we can have no âDeepâ encounter thatâs based on ignorance. (Mojitobabyâ we need you.)

How about the option of being someoneâs true love? Thatâs accomplishing something truly amazing too! And how many amazing things happen when 2 true loves support each other?
Mordock999 over 12 years ago
BOTH.

I love when Nancy wears those glasses. Makes her look wise and pretty. Good combination for the babe that she is.
