“They’re a disgrace to the Forces of Evil.” said Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty. But in reality no one ever thinks of themselves as the villain. Hitler looked upon himself as a saviour. So cheer up, Flask. You’re in good company.
lol this reminds me of when a friend of mine and I watched Blue Gender together, several years ago. There’s one woman who has a never-explained hatred for the main female protagonist of the story and goes out of her way to antagonize her. At one point when that character was being especially vicious, my friend suddenly yelled “WHAT IS YOUR BEEF?!”And wow, Flask seems so offended/shocked at being called a villain. I guess she sees the Topsiders as being so evil that no amount of terribleness Flask could try and do to them would amount to her being a villain in her mind.:readies her break-up ice cream for whatever horrors Flask is about to reveal: ;3;
OMG! He violated the Prime Directive! For today’s itteration of reality the part of the Lucranian Captain will be played by… Aaron Marx!.He exisits outside of reality, able to see all possible combinations of all possible choices, yet capable of entering into any one of these scenarios to affect the outcome. Whoa, call me crazy, but that sure sounds awfully God-like to me. Hmmm….. .TSOJ, I agree that your theory hit most of the important points, but he’s not stuck (a la Groundhog Day). This was an intentional intervention on his part, primarily to satisfy his curiosity. In a sense, he’s doing exactly what many of us would love to do if we had the power: essentially calling time out and demanding an answer to OUR questions, not just the ones the writer sees fit to address. .Aaron, bravo sir! Just when we might feel tempted to think we have a handle on this Endtown thing, you have the ability to simply open yet another door and reveal even more fascinating aspects of the Universe Neathery!.“Where’d all these ball players come from?” (obscure Field of Dreams reference) “Don’t sell the farm, Ray.” Oh, and Aaron… “People WILL come.”;-)
Am I wrong, or can anyone else feel the audience (us) hush and wait after the last panel. To paraphrase from the film “Trail of the Screaming Forehead”, Mr. Neathery has us by the shortbread. LOL
I am wondering how much Marx can intervene. At what point did Flask get his attention. As someone above (sorry, doing this from my phone) has pointed out, if Marx was omniscient then he would already know Flask’s “deal”. If he could intervene and save 8000 or so folks now, he could have intervened with Sparkplug (or those who perverted his work) and saved millions 8 years or so ago. He didn’t and probably couldn’t because Marx’s attention was elsewhere. Maybe?
AM states that Flask stole the ship BUT AM claimed that he had won it.
We never did see the Captain of the ship and the piloting software made Flask the captain of the ship. That would lead us to believe that the original captain was dead.
Of course no one ever heard of management (this time AM) change a story to cover their behinds.
Although Marx may be an…obfuscator, he shouldn’t have any more reason to lie to Flask. If she is in fact, dead, and it’s not more mind games to get her to explain her “deal”.
AM’s intervention in this reality scenario was to show up and win the ship from it’s original Captain (thus saving his life) shortly before the dawn rescue of our heroes. AM’s omniscience extends only to the level of information disclosed in the original scenario, and that did not include any explanation from Flask. Since he has intervened and changed the outcome of the scenario to save the lives of Flask’s multitude of victims, he has the opportunity to take this moment apart with Flask and explore her motivations in greater depth.;-)
“Rebellion is always legal in the first person, such as ‘Our rebellion’. It is only in the third person, ‘Their rebellion’ that it becomes illegal.”(obscure “1776” reference);-)
“The poor captain whose ship you stole…” That suggests that the former Lucranian captain was still aboard, even though we didn’t see him, when Flask interrupted the change of ownership to Marx.
Note that he said “would have killed” (statement of fact) not “might have killed” (statement of possibility). Remember, in the reality we just saw play out, the only one who died was Flask. AM’s intervention not only saved those other lives, it kept Flask from becoming the villain by killing them. So in a very real sense, AM saved Flask from becoming a villain..Tighten your chinstraps kiddees, the wierdness is just beginin’ to commence!;-)
In his search for the answer to “why?” (same question we’re all asking), he’s brought her “back to life”. What if she decides she doesn’t want to be dead any more? Can he bring her back for real?

I was just repeating what Level Head rhymed…although he used the word omnipotent. We both said that the fact he didn’t know her “deal” illustrated he WAS NOT either omnipotent or omniscient. The rest of my comment is another illustration of how he is NOT omniscient, since his attention could be elsewhere. It can’t be denied that Marx’s abilities have been called “godlike” in comments almost since he’s appeared. As for your other bit…someone smarter than me has said “What people call ‘magic’ is just science we don’t understand yet”…or something like that.
““The poor captain” that Marx was discussing could simply be a reference to himself.”Could be, but Marx is saying that this is his favorite Endtown reality spectrum, and as such he wants to know Flask’s motivations. If Marx is not from this iteration, then the ship had a different captain before Marx “intervened”. That implies that without Marx’s intervention, Flask had succeeded with her plan and everyone did die, including the captain who is not Marx.———————————That’s just it! I’ll never understand this console!
As I’ve said before Marx is NOT a TimeLord/Time traveller, but a SLIDER. Same Time but Alternate Demensions with different Outcomes. For example, there maybe an Endtown that had a war but everything is Steampunk. Cool huh?
I’m still with Flask, oddly enough. The Topsiders were attempting genocide of all mutants, and Flask didn’t exactly have a lot in the way of resources. If it wasn’t for the Aaron-Ex-Machina, all of Endtown would be getting de-brained and stuffed into mutts about now. My one problem is that her motives seemed less ‘save Endtown’ and more ‘personal vendetta’.
