I see a Greek tragedy coming. He may be afraid to let her see him with her real eyes. Remember everything she saw with the Topsider head gear was a construct. We have not seen his face. Does Quasimodo come to mind. Thanks JanDic about the Edgar G. I mentioned the movie as I did not know if anyone else ready the book. I have not seen stuff like this since the old Heavy Metal magazine series.
So, Flask already knew about the suit’s weakness behind the earpiece; it wasn’t something discovered by accident. And she voluntarily allowed herself to be mutated, it wasn’t something Petey2B forced on her. Anyone think the suit alerted the transporter to the breach, and the PT relayed the message back to the colony? Maybe Petey2B ran to avoid getting captured again.
Since we all know what Flask looks like, the reveal can’t be the cliffhanger. Something else must be about to happen.. We still need to have Petey see her and have time to create the knickname. They both knew it, so he didn’t come up with it away from her. He had to know what she looks like in order for some part of his brain to recognize her in the PT. The imminent seperation is still a little way off.;-)
Potty break? Come, on! Or as Joan RIvers used to say, Oh, grow up! You will give Flask’s lover (I’m still not convinced it’t Petey2b yet) any excuse for not hanging around to see the transformantion, won’t you? That is what is sad about this.
Ouch. Since Flask has only loved one man, and it’s this guy; it stands to reason that this guy is the one whose head became the PT that became Petey. Since Flask was still disturbed about his fate, then it seemed clear that she still loved him. This would not be the case if she thought that he’d betrayed her. Therefore he was gone for some other reason. I came up with something harmless yet functional.
TEAR OF THE CATto the tune of “Year of the Cat” by Al Stewat and Peter WoodIn a desert from a Dali dreamscape,In a land where all comfort has died,You lie talking of your city: All faceless suitsHiding prisoners inside. How you saw him standing there in chains, full knowingThat he’ll never see another dawn.Don’t bother asking for explanations,It’s a story that was bornIn the tear of the cat.He doesn’t give you time for questions, Arm in arm as you fly from despair. He has everything you dreamed of: The touch of skinAnd gentle wind in his hair.By the broken walls of forgotten halls,There you lay your bodies side by side. He’s going to give you a gift of lifeWhen you thought you had died. The tear of the cat.Well he looks at you so gentlyAnd his eyes shine like the moon in the sea.You nestle down, almost incidentallyInto slumber, to find what’s waiting insideThe tear of the cat.Well, morning comes and he’s not with youAnd your bus and equipment is goneAnd you’ve sullied your perfection to mutant formSo you’ll never go home. But your naked eyes see the city bleedingLike a predator who’s on the trail. From damnation, you’ve found salvationIn the telling of a taleAnd the tear of the cat.
My favorite part of this part of the story arc (besides the Flask unveiling) is that AN includes one panel of her being held by AM while she re-lives her trauma.
Aaron Neathery should be in Baltimore by now, for the Comic Con this weekend. If you’re in the area, visit him and give him moral support (money is very good for the morals). If you’re not in the area, please set aside some cash and bid up the artwork in next week’s auctions.
I can’t wait. Seriously. This is the first time I’ve ever written this stupid, easily-said thus usually meaningless comment, but I mean it. I would never have expected this turn (not speaking of an end, though it looks like one) to the story, and I was sceptical at first, but how could I hever have been sceptical knowing it’s Aaron Neathery’s comic! ;) Really, man … If I ever come to the USA, I’ll come driving by your bloody place if there’s no convention and I’ll kneel to you in the doorway for creating this wonderful comic. :)
Since Flask retained her size I am assuming she tranformed into a lioness rather than a cat. Many lions have black manes. Mutants do keep some human characteristics so the shape and long hair (mane) could be explained by that. The tail just did not form on the human style rump.

Flask still loved him, so we should know PT2B did not betray her and run off. He could be off for a good reason (i.e. potty break).

Well, we know he’ll have to see her at least once more before whatever happens, to be able to nickname her “Blackie.”

Good eye for detail, Aaron. It appears he has included the now empty “pinkie” digit of both gloves in the last frame.
