Uh-oh. Alice (and perhaps Petey) is going to get grossed out every time when looking at that gnome after Mom buys it; will make her think it’s spying on her.

Well if I really had to have one of them, I’d go with the pink flamingos.

I don’t know, I kind of like the gnome. Though as garden gnomes go, that one is pretty big.

Revulsion. Unmasking of inauthenticity. But then desire, fortified by actual cash, sweeps away all reservations as though they never existed.

If everybody detests garden gnomes then I really DO need to get one, or two.

i like garden gnomes that look like they’re bent over working so you can see their underwear.

My favorite is a copy of the statue of the kid whizzing in a fountain.

By pure chance, I just watched on DVD the 1990 Christmas Special episode of the classic Brit-Com “One Foot in the Grave” in which Victor Meldrew orders and receives 236 lawn gnomes (he meant to order only one, but accidentally put the item number in the “quantity” box on the order form.) He and his wife then have to keep all the gnomes in their house until they can be picked up in order to avoid any damage that would prevent them from being returned. The episode ends with one of Victor’s neighbors blowing away all the gnomes with a machine gun just as they are about to be picked up. I won’t spoil it by explaining why, but if you ever get to see this episode, it’s a classic.

I saw a lovely cartoon once that showed a batch of gnomes smoking their clay pipes and grinning evil grins while roasting a plastic flamingo on a spit.

I always wanted to design one with a motion sensor – when someone(or something) got near, it could mutter. Maybe in Spanish, for the gardeners…………

Cute stories. Mine is that I read about a dog being scared out of his wits when he came upon a very realistic-looking doll that looked like a garden gnome.

Once they get it home, I’m sure Alice and Petey will find a way to free it from it suffering (CRASH).

Just noticed that Alice said “Ew” with one underline in the first panel, and “Ew” with a double underline in the third panel. Wonder what she would have said about thatnicecollegeguy’s gnomes?

FENRISULFR – amazing how that good old lover of Baltimore Waters went from being notorious for Flamingoes to main stream via the incarnations of Hairspray. Personally I liked Crybaby best for local reasons.

And to RandyB and thatnicecollegeguy…T-minus 1 day. Fezes are cool. And so is bowling…

prefer my garden ornaments to be more realistic (herons, turtles, that kind of stuff) But if you are going for High Kitch, garden gnomes might be fun if they came unpainted. Then, you could choose your own colors, odd stuff like violet skin with yellow britches, floral hats.
