Danae: Wait... so every advancement in history came from your planet, Lars? Jeffrey: 'Fraid so. Lars: Going from the horse-and-buggy to the moon landing in 70 years... you thought humans did that alone? The only thing you talking monkeys have done on your own was turn all of our benign knowledge into weapons! Danae: Oh... Doesn't that make you guys the slow learners? Jeffrey: Really, really not helping. Lars: Oh, and rationalization. Talking monkeys have that nailed.

I suppose Lars could just leave and solve the problem that way. We’d soon stagnate technologically or with any luck, our societies would collapse. ;-)

I bet Captain Eddy was involved in most of the trouble….

Obama said that ATM’s took away jobs from real people, so I guess we should get rid of all that darned job-killing technology. See the “Candlemakers Union” in “Anthem” by Ayn Rand.

Your comment about Cugnot was the kind of instructive, enlightening, reasonable comments I appreciate about you….So, what’s with all the “ignorant human trash…demogogary…stupidity…mindless blather” vitriol? Are you angry at someone here? Those demeaning comments are becoming more common from you, and they do you no service, sir!

It must be Testy Tuesday. Chill out, guys ! We’re not even discussing politics and some of you are reacting like a rattlesnake with a hernia. This forum is a big sandbox and everyone’s allowed to play in it, as long as they play nice.

Alrighty then, I’ll keep my weapons, you give up yours, put a sign out in front stating which house has what, and see what happens…We actually have reasons to need weapons.

Can’t go by how slow some areas are to advance. Until the mid 1950’s, more land in Texas was plowed by mules and horses than by tractor. Are you going by invention or acceptance?

OH, WOW! THANKS FOR ONCE AGAIN INFORMING US OF YOUR DISDAIN FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE ARE HUMANITY’S (OR MORE SPECIFICALLY, AMERICA’S) FLAWS, WILEY! THERE ARE CERTAINLY PEOPLE SOMEWHERE WHO CARE!

“Lars got stranded on earth in 1947. He showed us how to make the transistor, lasers and fiber optic cable. He got disappointed in us when he saw our cable TV had 600 channels and nothing of any practical use was on.”
Hey, don’tyou know the health benefits of watching Emerill, Paula and Guy Fieri?
Come on, those thre have to have some redeeming value.
And, what about all those talent competitions? And the Kardashians? I could go on and on, but someone would flag me.

There is indeed something frightening going on here – you and your astounding ignorance, racism, and sexism.

I accept your challenge. Please revisit this page later this evening for my comment as it will take time to organize references and compose a response that is as succinct as possible. (I am on central time.)

Well, Lars is right about three things. We are talking monkeys and the only things we’re any good at are creating weapons and rationalization. Looking back in history, most of the great technological advances were only discovered BECAUSE we were looking for better ways to kill the Other guy but keep Us alive (take computers, nuclear power, microwave ovens, freeze drying, satellites, vehicles, the US highway system, the Internet, cellular phone technology, radio, television, bronze and iron, concrete!). All have their roots in war or weapons research. But that’s okay! Because we’ve learned (yeah, right) not to misuse such things. It’s only “bad people” who would dare misuse them.

Just for fun: One night when I was 14 I was laying in bed looking out the window. I like stargazing and am a supreme space cadet (maybe that will unknowingly inform what I am about to say). I saw this huge football shaped light hurtling at a 45 degree angle out of the sky and onto earth! It disappeared just before it hit. No one ever reported on it, and as far as I know…no one else saw it. UFO? Meteor? Probably meteor but it was HUGE. And I get to have my illusions, if I want, about perhaps seeing a UFO!

Thank you for that. An open, honest debate about facts and their significance is great. Too often, though, such debates get sullied by disrespect for the opposing side. Been here long enough to see people pop in with the attitude that they are right and others (that they don’t even know!) are "stupid.’ Such an attitude undermines open, honest debate. I have read enough of your comments over the months to know you are basically a great guy with a lot on your mind. You are better than this, and you regain my respect (not that you need it) by acknowledging it. Thank you, again. BTW…I need some body work done on my car…any suggestions Trusted Mechanic Man?

To quote Jonathan Winters in “The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming”:
“For God’s sake, why is it we can’t learn to live together”?

Sir, it takes a big person to publicly apologize. We have all, on occasion, been a little too caustic in our comments. Like yourself, I don’t suffer fools gladly, and have a tendency to express myself in terms that can sometimes be offensive. Please understand that my initial comment was general and not specific. It seemed to me, earlier, that everyone was a bit more on edge than usual and there was a harder bite by normally softer spoken voices.I was ( for me ) even being mild in my admonition to gnbman. Because I will not bring myself down to their levels, I refuse to respond to trolls such as Sturmmi14 , Brian Ransom , zoidknight, or Lin Gee Whilikers ( although, the LGW is more of an ideologue than a troll ).I always look forward to your comments.

Interesting point: These 70 years have seen a lot of invention. The mid 1800’s also saw a tremendous growth in knowledge. Considering the previous 1,000 years- it appears that there has been an external stimulus on creativity. Could it be God?

Who else would Danae blame but Captain Eddie? I think it’s time for another adventure….Maybe Jeffrey could build a Tardis-like time machine and send Danae to live with the Oods for awhile.
CKO86 over 12 years ago
@Blue Lightning: “Are We blaming MEN for all the world’s ills?” Of course he is. Male-bashing is what this strip is all about…well, that plus general misanthropy and mocking every man and woman who serves in the U.S. armed forces.
