Great way to celebrate a great cartoonist ! Love the Cubs hat. I had forgotten what a big fan Jeff was.I didn’t realize how much Skyler does resemble George Will ( also a big baseball fan ).
Guard SGT always strikes me as more anti-Obama than pro-Romney, although it is good to see that he is capable of coherent thought. The fact that we have something in common (we’re both C-SPAN watchers) is scary.
Jeff was fantastic. He did a great strip, and great political cartoons, a combination that’s really hard. Borgman was good at it but I don’t know if he still does political cartoons. Wiley Miller does a semi-political strip and a sit-com in the same daily space, and a wild Sunday feature. I don’t know when the man sleeps. MacNelly was a tremendous loss to cartooning. I wish they would collect his strips (and editorials) in the same way Fantagraphics is doing the old comics..
I highly recommend the book 27 Years of Shoe. You’ll see that the humor has remained the same (maybe a bit better), but the new Shoe doesn’t have continuing stories.

I really miss the SHOE of 1977. It was different then. There’s too much Skyler and Senator Belfrey. And I much prefer “Perfessor” over “Cosmo.”

The old Shoe was funnier. The new one has a lot of bad puns; occasionally a funny one.

I was thinking the same, though I think Cosmo’s desk pile is piled a little higher.

At least only a few items fall from my desk to the floor. Congratulations on your anniversary of bringing humor to the treetops.

Sadly, George Will is still with us.

Wasn’t what? A Republican? I think he was lampooning George Will’s appearance/wonkiness. Nothing wrong with a bow tie if you’re consistent!
