What does the box around Michael’s neck say and why is he wearing a box with his costume?

The box says, “UNICEF.” He is trick-or-treating for UNICEF; people will put donations in the box.

Unicef boxes have been forced on Canadian school kids since the 60s when I was a student in Scarborough. Of course, the UN has done such a great job… protecting children and women.

Years ago UNICEF was caught defrauding doners. They were taking the top 99% and keeping it for them selves and giving the rest for the needy… I have never donated to them or any charity since. Because with the exception of one that I know of they all do the same thing. Nothing but a bunch of crooks.

I am in my late 20s, and I have maybe had one trick-or-treater with a UNICEF box all the years I have handed out candy…

I used to collect for UNICEF as a kid when I went trick-or-treating. Now that I have kids, I’ve found boxes at Pier 1, but no one seems to have money ready to give.

Unicef donations are still collected by schools but all the events take place in the school. It was deemed too dangerous for children to collect on the streets on Hallowe’en as some kids were getting robbed by older ones. Now they have penny lines to see which class can bring in the most, silent auctions, etc.

A lot of people ceased making donations to UNICEF after a top official was caught running a kiddie porn ring in 1987.
