Thanks for the info – I was clueless, not being acquainted with any songs (to speak of) that came out after the 1950’s. Just listened to the Bill Withers version on YouTube, and counted 36 “you know’s.” Might have missed one.

And now it seems impossible for an American-English speaker to get through a whole complex sentence without a dozen “ya know?”s.

I used to dread this song coming on the radio. We tended to call it the “wino” song.

I tried to learn Mozart’s Alleluja, but kept forgetting the lyrics.
