I have been told that my dad stopped swearing the summer I was two after I leaned out of the open window and loudly repeated what he had been muttering at the car ahead of us: âYou bassard!â (No seatbelts, no air conditioning, and no push-button windows with locks in the fifties.)
I havenât been able to go anywhere without having to have a talk with the other âpeopleâ on the roads. I know they werenât paying any attention as their windows were up and they where playing with their phones. Yup, thatâs when I up the volume.
When I was a little kid, for a while I would shout âGet the lead out, George!â whenever I was put into the car. I thought that, since my Dad said that a lot on car rides, that was just what you said when you were in the car. It was years before I figured out what the lead was supposed to be removed from.
Let us not disparage Mr. Peter Otterloop. He allows Alice the honor of free rides in his Honda-Tonka-Cuisinart, and he entertains with his wuck wuck wuck Yodeling Duck impression, and he does not resort to the kind of language Beniâs father uses (resulting in Beni being forbidden to ride with him until he turns 18!)âŠ.

My sister would do that before the Pandemic. She misses it working from home.

I think I may have âheardâ his dad while driving in congested trafficâŠand his animated gestures with his hands and fingers.

A yodeling Duck!? Peter ought to team up with Timmy Fretwork, although they might be arrested for possession of WMDâs.

Funny how much additional language is absorbed in the back seat of the car.
