Oatmeal should be right up Petey’s alley. It has absolutely no distinguishing features of any kind. Tasteless, odorless, colorless, texture-less. It doesn’t even make a sound. That’s five out of five on the census (senses).
Of all the things to be a curmudgeon about, cereal box art is high on my list. Its formerly pleasing graphic art is now run by marketing science where the mascots are now all wild-eyed and staring down at the little decision-makers in the aisle.
I had oatmeal this morning. Old fashioned oats, fixed on the stove top. Added a spoonful of maple syrup, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and some currants. Delicious.
I LOVE today’s strip! As I was reading it one of my chief-gripe commercials came on, one in which various people, older adults who are presumably competent, are being interviewed about their cell phone company and, for NO DISCERNIBLE REASON, are laughing. WHY???? What is funny? It’s aggravating because it’s a cheap-out by someone with not enough imagination to finish off a commercial properly. And then there’s the doctor’s office commercial where people IN THE DOCTOR"S OFFICE are laughing! AAAAARRGGHHHH!
Mom’s intervention (oatmeal—ugh!) answers Petey’s question: none at all! And so he sits, bug-eyed and chastised by Alice (who is no more fond of oatmeal than I am)….

That is hysterically funny! Petey’s eyes are bugging out and he hasn’t even eaten the stuff. And Alice … on point.

next, petey will attempt to find out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop…

No telling what gets Petey off on a crazy food tangent. Give him the oatmeal while it’s still cold weather.

My mother used to say when I was a kid—-Eat your Maypo! I hope that hot cereal is long gone. I do like Cream of Wheat nowadays.

Oatmeal tastes better if you add raisins (and brown sugar too). But that might not work with Petey if he thinks raisins look like little bugs!

You didn’t have to eat any, Petey!

Petey’s tryin’ to play an, out of character, sarcastic wise guy that’s not even impressing Mom.

I like oatmeal when it’s cooked with milk, then buttered. It’s a bit like fresh bread in flavour. :D

You two should try “chocolate-frosted-sugar-bombs” for a change!

Outmeal tastes better properly cooked then garnished with fruits, sugars, nuts etc.

I am concerned about Petey’s picky eater rating, should he eat that cereal.
