Dave, does the dog have a name? After all, we know Ralph’s name in Reality Check.

Besides what he’s saying himself, other evidence that this “weatherperson” doesn’t have a clue include:

The slightly curved line on the right has triangles (spikes) on it to indicate a cold front but it has the color of a warm front.

Individual snowflakes are usually 6-sided or 6-pointed (not 4 or 8).

Weathermen are like doctors…they could only make an educated guess and maybe they’re right and maybe they’re wrong….their judgement is as cloudy as the sky’s at times!

The local weatherpeople have missed the last two “snowstorms.” The less than an inch prediction turned into 5 inches, and the 4 to 8 inch prediction turned into a light dusting.

It’s all about statistics. If you carefully watch or read a forecast it will say something like “40% chance of rain today” because 40% of days like today had rain. Too many people forget about the other 60%. That said we always keep a set of cold and wet weather gear in the cars anyway. And food, water and energy bars and stuff. Canadian winters can be cold and stuff.

In my lifetime, weather satellites have been a real game changer … but local geographical features still can bring it all down to experienced and home grown prognosticators …!

It’s more important to know whether there will be weather, than what the weather will be.
