You have to admire Ted Tellum’s industriousness. He can conceal felonies and move corpses, and still get behind the mike in time for his broadcast, and do it before that all-important first cup of coffee.
Graffiti on the bridge by some vandals! Ted Tellum dumping bodies (and the confirmation that those cracking sounds we heard were indeed necks breaking)! Tracy and Lizz won’t have many clues to work with unless there is surveillance tape or unless Ted makes some on-air gaffe before the car radio is shut off….
They lay face down in the gutterDone in by some nutterViolence was their stock and tradeA choice for which they dearly have paidBuilding bombs was in their soulNow they’re destined for a six foot holeA lonely grave in Potter’s fieldPerhaps their motives never revealedA case both perplexing and muddledLeaving those involved bemused and befuddledBut Tracy, a great dick is heWill find clues that others can’t seeBut what will Gloria do, when the story is reportedThat the bodies were found, but not where they were transportedWhat a tangled web Ted wove when he sought to deceiveI think he deserves everything he will receive.

One characteristic of a good mystery is that various characters (particularly the bad guys) act in ways that seem irrational until the big reveal when the puzzle’s solved. So I’m looking forward to finding out why the “terrorists” showed up short on cash, the suppliers decided to kill ‘em rather than just send them home with nothing (or with only as much fertilizer as they could afford), and why crusading radio host Ted is ditching the bodies (apparently all by himself) rather than reporting things to the authorities. .Y’know, it’s a sign of just how much this strip has improved that we’re speculating about such things. In the old days, things that looked like continuity and motivation issues were just assumed to be caused by the writer making it up as he went…
BTW, in Panel Two: is that an Edsel or a Checker squad car?.And is it colored better outside the uclick universe, where what is obviously the front of the car sports yellow headlights and red turn signals?
To APersoOfInterest: I think you hit the nail on the head. This was a Ted Tellum thing and Wolfman & clown met their match. Gloria just sent them back to Ted.
Puddleglum1066 is right —When I started reading Dick Tracy, all the comments were about how awful the strip was. Now the comments are all about what’s going to happen next and why, which shows how good the writing is.And the only real complaint is with the Gocomics’ colorist, for messing up the great art.(Personally, I think Tellum was bankrolling a terror plot to legitify his radio rants and make himself more important. The two dead terrorists pocketed some of the cash, so they were short for the payment to Morning Gloria. But they didn’t think that would matter, because they thought they could intimidate Gloria – they just didn’t know about Mina.)
Yes, when we were first introduced to Ted Tellum, he was broadcasting a “homespun” talk show for the ladies from his very modern house, which did span a curve in the river where Tracy and Sam were chasing Wormy. Wormy took refuge in the studio, and Tellum talked him into being “the voice of love” on his radio show, in an attempt to trick him into confessing over the air. This almost got Tellum killed, but Tracy and Sam showed up in the nick of time.Later in the series, Tellum apparently moved on to television, and Sparkle Plenty appeared on his talent show once or twice. This current building appears to be in the heart of the city, so I don’t think it’s supposed to be the same studio. Also, Tellum’s personality seems to have changed a bit. as he is now depicted as being an extreme right-wing radio ranter, with some kind of secret agenda which we don’t understand as of yet.
Tellum is in deep trouble now….Tracy already has a dim view of him and now he’s given him a reason to not only get him off his radio but drop him in THE BIG HOUSE.
Tellum is going to regret his decision to cross Dick Tracy.

Ted is a body mover? There has to be a security camera in the parking garage.

I’m guessing Ted has some crimes of his own which he fears would be revealed by any investigation in his vicinity.

I’m guessing that those two were sent to the garden center by old Ted to try and get expose material for his radio show.
