I noticed the very modern appointments in Jr. and Sparkles’s house in yesterday and today’s strip. Back in the 50’s, Chester Gould had to deal with people who began to wonder how Tracy and Tess could afford to live in a super modern home on a cop’s salary. This evolved into a story where Tracy was accused of swiping stuff from the evidence vault at HQ. When all was said and done, he was cleared, of course, as it turned out it was the Police Custodian in league with a small time record store owner who were guilty of the thefts, and the framing job. It is nice to see Jr. in such a beautiful home.
For those who don’t know, Boris Karloff and Ralph Byrd co-starred in the movie “DICK TRACY MEETS GRUESOME.” And if you don’t know who Karloff played, turn in your 2-way wrist radios!!
I think that Mike’s idea of Tracy calling newspaper editor Hank O’Hair (a woman with a man’s name) for information was inspired by Vera being a man with a woman’s name. Plus, it gave them a chance to mess with some people’s minds.
Now if only people could learn to spell Irish names… (Mine is O’Donnelly.)
BTW, I’m wondering whether Vera will end up as a guest of Coroner Gould or a new display for Abner Kadaver. Time will tell!
You know you are too old to take your grandchildren Trick or Treating on Halloween when people say they like your Boris Karloff mask and your not wearing one!!!!!
It’d be nice if Abner Kadaver had Dr. Mordred and Johnny Nothing/The Blank is his repertoire! Come to think of it, maybe the mummy is the dead guy that was on the science museum stage and forgotten about!
Too bad I never got to see where Junior and Sparkle fell in love and got married. My stupid local newspaper dropped the strip in the late 70’s “because it was too violet”! And the internet was still way into the future.

GOOD EVENING ALL!Today we see Junior topless, and Sparkle in her nightgown. (grin)I think that bed wouldn’t even fit in my bedroom.

If they’d shown this in the old days, it would have been a scandal!

Good evening! It is big! Hmmm Junior’s worries make me think Vera is certainly going to be causing some trouble.

Vera’s done “Drawing” the coloring book.
Next, I believe, he will be “Withdrawn” from the story.
I don’t think he has a “Ghost” of a chance of making it to next week.

I hope Sparkle is right about Vera. But I rather expect that one way or another, alive or dead, he’s going to be trouble in the near future….

A Karloff reference is better than no Karloff at all!

Never bring up the EX at bed time, Junior. It could end up with you getting a cold shoulder (panel three).

Seems as though Junior has aged even more.

I think it was because he was the last of a long string of siblings and his mama said “Vera Alldid!”. Was she Italian?
trimguy about 13 years ago
So how would one greet Mr Alldid? " ’Allo, Vera " ;)
