This strip appears to be taking place in an alternate universe in which being a cartoonist can make you famous enough that people recognize you in places other than comic book conventions.

Didn’t Vera once do some work as a police artist for Tracy?

As I recall, apart from the divorce, Vera was the sort of character that things just happened to, usually bad things. Looks like that is still true.

What am I missing here, and what would be the motive for doing away with Vera? Get a load of the hateful expression on Mr. Cueball’s face. I bet that there’s no kisses for him at home. Just maybe that’s why that he is such a stinker.

Maybe the bartender goes to comic book conventions on his off hours.

I’m thinking that the reason he was recognized in this case is that it was a part of the set-up. They are all in league with Kadaver somehow, and so they knew he was coming. Recognizing him at the bar was a way to distract him while they put the “funny powder” in his drink. The motive for all this? That remains unclear to me at his time – wait and see, I guess.

The character of ‘Cueball’ appeared in the TV movie version of Dick Tracy verses Cueball. If I am not mistaken it was Richard Bird who played Tracy.

Boy, I thought this strip ended years ago! One of my favorite Tracy storylines, was back in 1964-1965, where there was a block of ice found, with a woman inside, and the question for several months of strips was if she was the long lost Amilia Erehart. Sure Im spelling that name wrong.Just when did this storyline start and end, and, where can one read it today?
