I dunno. That explosion is looking more serious today than it did yesterday: the folks on stage seem to be pretty badly knocked about….Meanwhile, if Einstein follows Gruesome’s cold-blooded directive and rams Lizz’s car, she may not be able to stop their escape. Gruesome at this point is looking all too successful, and the MCU is being battered and bettered by baddies. If the Nitrates should show up soon, things could get even worse!
Is the Gruesome storyline definitely a limited run, short term event?
Beginning to wonder now if he’ll make a relatively clean getaway (… to eventually join up with the Blackhearts?) while the strip focuses on the aftermath of the blast, then eventually segues into the hinted at Nitrates/Agate plot.
Wouldn’t be the first time Joe and Mike put a villain’s capture on hold whilst building towards a larger overarching event.
[They’d most recently teased the Blackheart’s ongoing recruitment drive in the 10/22/14 – 10/26/14 strips, be a missed opportunity if it didn’t dovetail somehow.]
And speaking of teases …
From 11/4/14 – 11/6/14, we seemingly randomly cut to Diet Smith, who’s in the midst of dismantling his “Blue Image” time travel project (… introduced during the “Annie” crossover!) where he leaves us with these ominous words …
“Of all the images we received, the last was most telling. It was of this building, all gone but for some rubble atop its cornerstone, while aircraft filled the sky overhead.”
Holy “Crisis on Infinite Amounts of Foreshadowing!”
Wonder if this will pay off ‘round about Tracy’s 100th Anniversary in 2031.
Lizz and Karloff face off! What a thrill. Mr. Staton has captured Lizz perfectly. Big snowflakes fall, reminders of the season and Team Tracy’s rich attention to detail. Yesterday we had silhouettes, a close up and an explosion from the vantage point of the aisle, as theatre patrons ran for their lives. Kandikane is safe, but will Vitamin need to be nursed back to robust health? I like the way the play and Gruesome intersected for a new twist on an old classic. Gruesome looks a bit worse for the wear, himself, as he emerges from the theatre. Very nice work with the colors!.Will Lizz take out Gruesome and Einstein on her lonesome, or will help come running? It would be just like Tracy and Sam to dust themselves off and jump back in the fray. My money is on Lizz in the battle of beauty versus the beast.
Thanks to VistaBill, cpalmeresq, boboscar, Gweedo, davidf42, Starman1948, Willy007 (welcome back), Neil Wick, Morrow and mzkdad for the kind words. Very much appreciated!
If Mr. Gould were here still doing this strip, he’d have Lizz do something violent such as fire her weapon, peppering the front windshield in a hail of hot lead, killing both Gruesome & Einstein and swerving into something resulting in their getaway car exploding in a fireball.
It seems rather odd that there are so many restrictions on what can be put in a comic strip now when so many other media have expanded the limits of what they can show. For example, TV shows, video games, music videos, comic books and movies. All of those have upped the violence yet they are so scared to offend in comic strips.

Totally agree that Grusome is barking up the wrong tree if he thinks he’s just going to “mow down” this lady cop!

Morning, Tracyville!Nice work Pequod! Thanks!
Comparing today’s explosion scene to the strip on December 10, I believe the people in the picture to be Sam, Dick, Vitamin, Agate, and Mel.

Look to see a Christmas tree, reminder of the season
The Nitrates have returned to town, not without a reason.
They seek to con the actress, Aggie: riches they would take
Against long odds they did survive frozen plunge into the lake.

Onstage at the Patterson, crashes curtains on the play
Einstein waits in the alley to aid Gruesome’s getaway.
A hidden bomb makes Gruesome calm; a smoke-screen masks his flight
The audience now terrified, scrambles in frenzied fright.
Outside, in the alleyway, Lizz is calm and steady
Her eyes glued to the doorway, skilled hands at the ready.
Blocking Gruesome’s getaway, the brave Detective Lizz
Courage and tenacity to stymie plans of his.
Lizz she is a dynamo, protector so persistent
Does great honor to the badge, for justice she’s insistent.
The fiend would cremate innocents or maim them in a blast
Commands Einstein to mow Lizz down; may such words be his last.
