    Good morning all!

I’m back to normal now. Why can’t I see myself in the mirror anymore?

So, it look like a bank robbery in progress by a couple of crooks who are “known to police.” This is an interesting development. It also seems to be a separate thread from the comics auction.

I just came across an excellent article from the show business paper, Variety, from last November. It covers some highlights of the Funky Winkerbean strip and where it is headed and also makes mention of the Dick Tracy crossover. My pleasure, Gweedo.

Bronson Canyon has a storied and colorful filmography, which includes at least one item directly related to Dick Tracy …Bronson Canyon

Wouldn’t Westview be a little out of their jurisdiction? Ah, doesn’t matter. It’s a Tracy world and we’re all just livin’ in it. I’m sure the local police would be honored to be helped out by a world famous detective.

Ahh, the plot thickens! The colors are very vibrant today! Tracy is very observant, as always! The anticipation for tomorrow’s exciting installment is helping me overlook the moving jukebox and the FUNKY way Tracy holds a coffee mug! LOL!

Unless this little town is a suburb of Tracy’s city.. then someone needs to have a chat with our erstwhile detective and tell him about BOUNDARIES and JURISDICTION.

Tracy is NOT a state police officer.. he is chief of detectives IN HIS OWN CITY and realistically would not have jurisdiction over anything that transpires OUTSIDE the city limits

what he SHOULD do instead of dragging sam along to investigate this situation, is alert the local law enforcement and tell them what he is witnessing and offering to keep an eye on the situation for them until they arrive.

besides… its not like he’s got NOTHING TO DO in his own town.

couldnt a regular uniformed officer performed the same task that Tracy and Sam are doing? Viewing the auction? was there REALLY a need for literally HALF the mcu/s to be “out of town” handling an issue that shouldnt even be their responsibility in the first place? they apprehended Jumber (possibly the L:AST case they solved on their own by the way) and anything to do with the “aftermath” doesnt need the attention of the police force in ANY form

i’d LOVE to see tracy try to make a collar in Westview, only to have the current mayor turn around and say that because tracy doesnt have jurisdiction it lead to the arrest be declared invalid and have the perpertrator go free.

Today he sounds so much LIKE the Dick Tracy we’ve always known . . .An instinctive EYE for the almost unnoticed - out of place little detail, that suggests something is wrong, and a mind makes a meaningful connection Judiciously - in character *!

Sharp contrast to the “sense” one got last Monday, as he and Sam departed in a Squad car like a recently Married Couple, one could envisage, the “noisy clatter” of Empty Cans, representing that litter of OMMISSIONS to ‘tie up’ the last case or story line !

Some might “wink” and forgive it, as an acceptable “short cut”, on the grounds that it was all in the interest of yet another crossover this time with Funky Winkerbean ? Worth further “messing up” - a reputation, of what already seemed a now somewhat dysfunctional MCU.

Wendy Witchel might soon be publicly asking questions *! ? ?

In the meantime, today’s ‘observation’ looks like a good restart of the Tracy engine !

Hmm.. this just came to my mind as i was re-reading the strip and the comments… Tracy is heading off (without jurisdiction mind you) to investigate a POSSIBLE bank robbery by apparently two people who are known to HIM but not to Sam. (can Sam REALLY be that dimwitted? Then again, he DID pretty much hand gruesome his gun so.. strike that lol)

wouldnt it be just OODLES OF FUN if Bronson Canyon and Double E were hooked up with everyone’s favorite bank robber… BLACKJACK!! (quick, check the jukebox to see if Tubthumping is lilsted!)

I can see it now.. Tracy and Sam bum rush the bank to save the innocent civilians inside (even tho they have no legitimate jurisdiction to do so… see the pattern forming here kids?) and turns out that the two aformentioned robbers are being supprted by Tracy’s ol’ buddy Blackjack… upon entering the bank, Tracy and Sam are holding the bad guys at bay when Blackjack steps out of the vault, the stash secured in a satchel slung over his shoulder.. upon exiting he sees Tracy and Sam and says “Hey Tracy, thanks for letting me escape after I shot Abner kadaver for you.. that was really swell of ya big guy!”

Sam stops and looks at Tracy with a “What the hell” look while Tracy shrugs his shoulders saying “He helped me save Bonnie and Ray, i HAD to do something to show my gratitude.”

Blackjack fires off a shot, intentionally putting a hole thru Tracy’s fedora while Bronson canyon and Double E fire off shots taking out the bank security, bank manager and ventilating am’s left shoulder.. all the blood and injuries and the stolen money would then rest squarely on Detective Tracy’s shoulders

NAAAAAHHH theyd NEVER do something like that! :)

Reminds me of Inspector Callahan in the opening scene of “Dirty Harry” while eating a hot dog and watching a bank job go down (terribly) in the mirror.

Tremendous art. The first panel places us in the diner with such a delightfully detailed rendering that we can almost smell the coffee. The second panel strategically shifts the angle, so as to reveal the bank that Tracy spies. In the third, Sam finishes his cup o’ joe as Tracy prepares to take action. The hat is going on and Tracy is going out to stop criminal activity. Wonderful.

SIGH I usually applaud effort but really, as Kenny Rodgers says; ”You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, Know when to walk away and know when to run”!

Amazon refers to this and dozens of others as JUKEBOXES!!! Why do you keep trying , give it up! LOL!!!

Dang! A couple of flatfoots can’t even have a cop of coffee and a doughnut without Crime raising its ugly head! Now, an improvised stopping of a bank robbery involving two characters known to Tracy (but not me).

Thank you Neil I appreciate you taking the time to post those pictures. If you look again at panel one it seems to me that Tracy is somehow holding his cup with just his index finger. Strong finger!

I don’t think it matters how Tracy holds his cup. Whatever works for him. I hold cups in different ways depending on the size of the cup or shape of the handle. Whatever feels the most comfortable and stable as I don’t want to drop it.
