What a nice tribute to Dick Locher’s son, John, who died 30 years ago this year. Always good to see Team Tracy honoring their predecessors with respect.
Turn back the clock it’s yesterday for nowThe tears of today become expressions of wowAs memories of those whose departure still stingHelp temporarily ease thru the joy that they bringNo greater respect to the ones who came firstIs to show that you care by each line and each verseAs Mike and Joe teach humility and graceBy putting a smile on a hurting mans face.
So I guess that finding X-Ray and Spicy passage to Cuba and allowing them to successfully get there is due to John L. keeping his cover? (BTW, who had “Locher” as the middle name of Mr. Springsteen? Probably no one LOL)
I agree that this is a much better tribute to John Locher than altering the look of a major character. Since Mike and Joe took over there have been tributes galore to lots of people and strip characters including from outside the Tracyverse. It’s always done in a classy, dignified way and I have no objection at all to this continuing.
Interesting tribute and comments; I was not aware of John Locher, Dick’s son, until now; having assisted in drawing Dick Tracy, he died at only 25 years of age in 1986. (Cf.Neil Wick’s comment, above….)
Yesterday, Mike confirmed what I figured was the case. The story of Matty Squared (and presumably Bribery) is still some way off. The next story is Notta Fallar, followed by Abner Kadaver in the summer.

So….Springstein has set up our intrepid pair of would-be crime lords for a big fall at Tracy’s hands…..

Kudos to everyone who’d guessed “J.L. Springstein” was Patton’s “Reliable Source.”

I just realized that Ivanov brought up Cuba as well. I suppose his business in Tracyville is bound to have some connection.

Very respectful tribute today. I’d almost forgotten about the yellow “duck” Locher would work into Sunday strips as a nod to his son.
