Kinda lonely starting up the ol’ transmitter without my partner’s witty banter to get me through the steps.-Good morning Radio Land !
I would say “Good morning, Vietnam”, but that one’s already taken. Maybe Good morning, Matterhorn ?-This lull is where we ourselves become simple spectators. The reporter’s life has its moments.
The local constabulary is on the case, interviewing witnesses and “cane guy” is listening intently for clues. It seems that he might be going to search for the bodies himself.
Just a caneBut then againA dog may sniff out clues. If Tracy is indeedNo moreI’ll weep and sing the blues. They heard no yellWhen those men fellNow look to see no moreA fiendish ghoulTaken to schoolNo sign of corpse or gore.As with the riverWhere they fellSome waters run so deep.Could “cane man” lendA helping handWhat secrets might he keep?
The crowd gathers like Pooh bear to honeyDid Monty Hall say they’re giving away money?Oh it’s about those two wild and crazy guysDancing with the stars before our very eyesWho knows where they went they’re both lost in spaceLocating them will be a mission impossible at this pacePerhaps station Vbeedo’s current DJ Wolfman JackCan do a Midnight Special and hopefully pick up the slack!
I hope they don’t play out the whole “Tracy’s dead” idea: mourning, funeral, etc. We all know he isn’t.DC Comics did it when they “killed off” Superman, stretching the idea out for year or more before “Superman’s back.”
Telling the police what they saw, and what we saw, and what the Doyle lookalike saw, gives us time to mull possible outcomes. If Tracy and Kadaver both did go off the ledge, plunging down into the river, a search of the river and its downstream banks should begin at once. But maybe the smoke cloud has obscured a different ending to the struggle on the ledge and another way down the valley of the Reichenbach Falls….
The fact that Sir Arthur maintained an unshakable belief in the Cotswold fairies hoax as well as being an active participant in seances meant to contact the dead does not speak well for him to bring forth a character like Holmes; a master of deductive reasoning. Does it now?
AnyFace said that Doyle had intended to kill off Homes in THE FINAL PROBLEM. But as Justin Playfair said in “They Might Be Giants”…..“I came back in the sequel.”
Considering that Sherlock Holmes is in the public domain, I wonder if this fellow may be some distant relation of Watson, and know of some secret pathway (such as something Holmes may have used to survive the falls).
Maybe, in the hidden aura of the smoke, Tracy & Kadaver climbed into a pre-positioned barrel and went over the falls (ala Niagra-style) in an attempt to use the publicity stunt to boost popularity count for the strip. The old guy with the cane could be part of the camera crew for ESPN. Anyone thought of that? That is just about on a par with their trash-talking each other to death on the trail.
Uh-oh! ERROR ALARM! Kudos to my great friend and penalty box occupant, SDM, for catching the mistake, but the chickie’s arm behind Sugar’s back should be re-positioned to where she has her hand sliding down into his back pocket where his Black American Express card resides.

Consider this …
It had been Doyle’s intent that Holmes meet his fate in the adventure of “The Final Problem.”
Might ’Doyle’s’ presence on-site be meant to endorse ‘The Great Detective’s’ demise …?

I knew cane guy had a reason…. !

Also …
Kadaver has set the stage in such a way as to take full credit.
It’s likely that he’s pulled a bait-and-switch, but it might be fun to see the after-effects of Tracy’s “Death” play out for awhile.
… perhaps till Halloween?

Thirdly …
Remember who made a guest appearance towards the beginning of this story?
Might Tracy himself soon be considered “A Ghost Who Walks” …?

I will buy the idea that that’s Arthur Conan Doyle if someone can show me Doyle ever having such a cane.

It’d be funny if the guy with the cane turned out to be a European detective hunting Abner.

If literary figures do indeed exist within the Tracyverse, it’s entirely possible that Doyle was Watson.
