I was going to say yesterday, but I don’t think I ever did, that the light hanging over the table gave a real “hideout” look to the secret room. Now, that light has been extinguished and the only light is coming from the storm outside.
I was looking at an old strip and noticed that Mysta Tracy was buried in Wildwood Cemetery – http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2012/09/30 It just so happened that it is also the name of the cemetery where The Spirit lives, but in another city. Coincidence?
Of course, this makes for more action, but why doesn’t Tracy wait for back-up when he calls for it? Sam was coming immediately, their quarry was sitting quietly, unaware that they were on the way up – why not wait until Sam was on the scene before making their move?
I was hoping that they would show us the secret door – how it fit into the hotel decor without looking like a door, how that giant key worked, etc. Mr. Am must have told them all that stuff off panel. (By the way, Annie discovered secret passageways more than once in Harold Gray’s stories.)
It appears that Ramon didn’t know that the Am double was going to use a hidden entrance to Perenelle’s room in order to kill her. (Remember his surprise to find the dead body.)
Double Am leaves no doubt as to his ferocious intent, confident in his great size and (one assumes) comparably great strength, while being remarkably protective of Ramon Escobar. There must be something between those two, but it is hard to say what: I can’t see either as the father of the other, for example.
And, as Yellow and Blue have decided (as fools reputedly do) to rush in without waiting for their backup to arrive, Tracy and the handicapped Spirit will have their hands full in a fair fight against Double Am. So, fight dirty. Use your pistol, detective! A few well-placed slugs should at least slow him down! And it’s so dark, except for the dramatic flashes of lightning outside the window—toward which frenzied Ramon seems headed!
A .40 cal with a full magazine ought to stop that ape. And I betcha Tracy has a backup magazine or two. If David stopped Goliath with his sling and a handful of stones, you know Tracy can do the same with 30 rounds.

Anyway, Double Am is not claiming to be innocent here. That’s as much as a confession… to something.

Why hang around just to resist arrest? This makes absolutely no sense at all!

Double Am may be a formidable opponent for Tracy and Spirit…but the real Am is close at hand. So is Sam, if he got moving at Tracy’s call.

that giant key is somewhat reminiscent of the key to the front door of Superman’s Fortress of Solitude

If Ramon is going to slip out the window, isn’t that first step going to be a little steep?

Windows looking into a secret room isn’t the best strategy.

Anyone want to bet Ramon either gets hit by a lightning bolt, plunges off a rain-slickened ledge to a gruesome doom or both?

Short of throwing their bodies side ways might bring the fake Am down. Saw Jim West do it lots of times.
