It seems to me a bit of “reverse psychology” on the part of Barnabas. At least he knows for sure to blame Wendy for publicizing the nickname.

but youd think that wendy, being the expert investigative reporter that she is, would question why this guy moved from tacoma AND the serial killer followed him

Any chance that Wendy has been teaching a journalism class at a local community college? That would qualify her for, er, special treatment by the “Teacher’s Pet”!

Why would Wendy (practically) reveal her source to this guy?

Seems like a strategic error to make sure a reporter following the case knows you came to town from Tacoma around the same time the killer did.

And so it comes to pass, much as I foresaw yesterday!

Wendy Wichel did write the print version of the story, and Bar Tar has sought her out to gather intel and perhaps line her up as his next (or at least near future) victim. But at the same time he is giving away info about himself! Is Wendy quick-witted enough to pick up on that? And to inform her love-hate detective nemesis, Dick Tracy? Who might just save her scurvy neck? …We shall see.
