I thought Tulza was previously said to be driving the truck, though I haven’t found where that was said. I think the last panel got mirror imaged because I think his left side should be in the acid, but it’s good back story.
I like the view from behind prior to the crash. Why is his right side face in the soup when it is the left that got the damage ? I love backstory but geez, guys, get it right !
I thought only his face got splashed lying as he is with one hand visibly in the acid that hand should also have been disfigured. yet we have seen him using both hands with a fair amount of precision
Upside down, mirror image or not, usually those kinds of vehicles are marked:
“Hazardous Cargo”
Usually the contents, and how to handle a spill, are listed on those little red and white DOT HAZMAT labels that they are required to affix prominently on their vehicles.
Editor’s Note: These flashbacks are really challenging this alternative narrative. Oh well, here goes…
1-CLUELESS*: Seeing that crow deliver Breathless Mahoney’s purse reminds me of when I was Chief Enforcer for PETA. One day we got a call that some fiend had trained crows to deliver merch he had sold online. The swine! I was furious. Oh wait. I shouldn’t have used ‘swine’ that way. Never mind. Anyway…
2-I was in hot pursuit. Heedless of danger – to humans of course cause, who cares-, I chased Moosetachio (I learned his name later) until he crashed into a truck carrying acid. The truck driver was killed and Moosetachio lay helpless, very close to the leaking acid! I won an accommodation for having not harmed any animals that day.
3-As the acid inched towards the RIGHT side of Moosestachio’s face, I dragged him away, split his head with my club and tossed him back in so that the LEFT side of his face was melted. Don’t ask me why but that’s what my handlers at PETA informed me via two-way would be an appropriate punishment for the crime of training crows to deliver merch.
DT: We didn’t ask and, just wondering here, what’s the punishment for teaching your dog to sit up and beg?
CLUELESS: Humiliating an animal like that is capital punishment. Almost as bad as dressing them in clothes.DT: (Gulp). Umm, yeah. Sounds right.
I wish the writer would have gone back and looked at some of Overgard and Saunders’s strips to get a better “ear” for the way they wrote Mike Nomad’s dialogue. Look, these jokers wrote way too fancy fer yer ever-lovin’ Mike Nomad.
Main point here today is that Mike has retconned the story so that Mike Nomad was in hot pursuit of Tulza Tuzon at the time of his first accident. Never mind that panel 3 was mirror-flopped but corrected on the Tribune Content Agency site, as noted by earlier comments. Welcome to the noobie Haf and Haf!

Nomad’s narration in Panel #1 covers up too much of his face, and doesn’t need to. ✨

Looking at the above, I guess the whole front side of his body is mutilated too. Except for the left side of his face.

And this, boys and girls, is why you should always wear a seat belt…..

OK – now we know Splitface’s motive for bombing Mike’s car – he blames him for his initial disfigurement…

Sounds a lot like Two Face in the Batman comics. Which came first? I think Two Face.

I was getting worried. We’ve gone almost a whole week without seeing a car crash.
