Is this why wine is often served at art gallery openings? An attempt to get the art viewers liquored up, lowering their inhibitions and loosening their grip on their checkbooks?
Sorry, but I’m with them! Art is the biggest scam going! Stuck up, pretentious snobs with more money than sense!
I read a story about an art show in which one of the exhibits was a banana duct taped to a wall. It was priced at $150,000. Predictably, someone took the banana and ate it. They interviewed the curator, who said “The value of the piece was not in the banana, because that was going to rot away anyway. The VALUE was in the Certificate of Authenticity!” So you would pay $150 grand for a piece of duct tape and a banana, which you would end up throwing away, and a piece of paper. That’s the biggest scam ever!
He has expenses to cover. That primed stretched canvas was $50 and another $40 for the frame, and paint, thinner, and brushes. There is also rent, food, fruit, and a naked female model.
Don’t like the late 19th century minimalists? Stick around. The likes of Len Lye raised a few eyebrows in the early 20th century. All lost on this lot, no doubt.
