It back! And already my expectations have been flipped over!Where are we? Who are these people? Where are Holly and Wally? Has the plot undergone a total re-boot?I’ve been really drifting since Endtown went on hiatus. It really struck me just how much a part of my life this comic had become. It’s a work of genius. Here we are, now, and something brand new is starting.Where will it go? Who knows? But this is the current work of the incomparable Aaron Neathery, and I want all of it I can get!Game on!
Boy, am I surprised! I was expecting to see Holly and Walley, but instead got this. My take, FWIW, is that it’s a tie-in between Ed Deadeye and Endtown.
I’m sure it was set up to lead in with an Ed Deadeye feel. Deadeye was drawn over ten years ago, but this new Endtown strip was written and pen-to-paper a few weeks ago. Neathery is the sort of storyteller who would play games with us in real time. I’m sure the similarity is deliberate, without being an actual Deadeye story.I bet we’re going to find out the police officer has turned into a wombat or something.“I don’t know where he’s gone, but he hit a deer”“A deer… in a police uniform… " [Cue Twilight Zone theme]
Well, at first I thought the cars looked too old to be contemporary with the time just before the EOCAWKI, but after going back and re-reading the Sparkplug story, it appears that is incorrect. Similarly styled vehicles do appear in Sparky’s flashbacks, so this could be backstory on an existing character.
" I bet we’re going to find out the police officer has turned into a wombat or something." Ofc1: These dice look and smell funny?Ofc2: Wanna shoot some craps?

Are you people really thinking that the hiatus having the old Ed Deadeye story was just for fun? Not tied with this new plot? It’s AARON NEATHERY we’re talking about here, who plots things well in advance. I also think this mysterious 4th panel silhouette is Sam, in a flashback.Because Aaron has already linked all his previous little strips by the same milieu (Hillside definitely was the place to be in his world), why not bring this one back? Aaron Marx was clearly established in the Al & Gustine strip, so it made sense to have him in Endtown. This should be interesting.
This kind of reminds me of the end of the Flaskback storyline where things start with two contractors discussing the construction of an underground city. None of us knew where things were going until the Dutchess appeared and a few of us (like yours truely) didn’t believe that the Dutchess was Flask until her face was revealed. I’m guessing we’ll find this storyline will fit into the existing one before too long.
OK, I am a little confused. Where do we wonder are we going?Anyway I am still alive. Actually in better health after kicking for 2 months. Wish you happy turkey day. I am unable to eat any food that requires teeth. Sigh. I stop kids in the stores and tell them that I can kiss my nose. Then tell them the tale of how I cheated toothbrushing……. Not really but they believe and the moms give me an smile and an eye. Bought a scooter. Second hand $500. Great for shopping. 12 mile on one battery charge. I get so short of breath if I have to use the wheelchair. Damn thing is heavy itself without the O2 tank on the back. Any enough news about me. You know that I love you all. Carry on.Blessed Be
I too, feel this is a flashback; looks interesting though.Welcome back everybody.I have to admit that I also would like to see more of the Deadeyes, maybe GoComics would consider running it as a series as well. Jus’ hopin’…
Oh dear… I’d forgotten how much I actually missed the interplay in the comments here. Glad to see everyone back and Dirty Ol’ Lady, I know what you mean. I gave up on a regular chair a few years back. I now run a small scooter (small enough to break down and fit in the trunk of my car) outside the house and my regular chair when inside.
Having driven up on scenes like this……At least they stopped.A Conjecture……early Flask story line. Before she was adopted into the Topsiders? Times before the wars and virus.
Like so many others, I too was not expecting this drastic shift. (And how unusual to see trees!) But it only intrigues me that much more. I’m always puzzled by those who practically pitch a fit whenever a story takes an unpredictable turn, simply because the reason for it is not immediately obvious, and they think they should know all the whys and where-to-fores right now. I for one enjoy watching to see how it develops, how a bunch of seemingly unrelated threads are woven together so that the pattern gradually develops before one’s eyes. And eventually realize that it all does have a point and purpose, and that a little patience pays off in the end.

This could be some sort of flashback, before the Earth was turned into a desert.

I think Aaron is extending the Ed Deadeye story. Notice the grilled on the car, identical to Chief Sam Reinfor’s squad car.

Welcome back! Good catch on the profile…it does look like Trundle’s. So many possible stories in Endtown! I’m ready.

Ah! ’Tis like old times. Except…who are these people and how do they relate to Endtown?

BTW, Doctor Who was a renegade Time Lord, wouldn’t it be interesting if Aaron Marx turned out to be a renegade FRDA agent?…
