weird. Post Amesworth rad exposure then. Maybe some kind of meteorological effect? Wind and rain caking the stuff up into shapes instead of eroding them down? Or some still unknown biological activity? Or, even seismic, wet dust churned up into static wave fronts and set into the shapes? Will we ever find out? Who will die? Who will survive? And what about Dobby? Stay tuned for the next exciting episode!
Maybe they are similar to sandstone? Seems like despite Jim’s habit of calling Wally cat, they are getting on quite well. I feel sorry for Jim because Sara just used him to get well. Now she is showing she doesn’t love him at all.
Reminds me of “One Nation under a Groove”…"So high you can’t get over it, so low you can’t get under it!The heat and shockwaves created a wind from all the weapons blasts created a sort of “Amesworth Meringue”It’s radioactively delicious! In a transuranic sort of way…
Clive has a viewscreen? Transporter technology must have advanced since Petey was built. In those days the PTs didn’t have viewscreens and fed the video directly to the biosuits. If it wasn’t for Al’s Chi Pod, Petey’s airscout would have been useless.
This would be the time to fit a little Dozer Blade on Clive, use the airscout to pick a fairly straight and level path through the mess, and make your own road.
My guess is they need to go out and touch it……DITTOS have done their “works” before even fooling Al and Gustine to keep one from seeing what is real…..I am surprised no one suggested this.
Maybe it is an artifacted barrier? APEX (and, presumably others) have demonstrated bulk nanite technologies that could be used to grind out extensive structures. Then there are possible “wild” nanites, not unlike the dittos. The overhead image suggest that it is a deliberate barrier in any case. But what kind of barrier against whom? I’m wondering that it might be a monster fence, depending on how hard and sharp the pointy bits are? If the pointy bits are exceptionally pointy, it may also serve as a anti-suit-wearing fence. Even if the suits are puncture proof (and I’m not convinced that they are “totally” safe) all those sharps would give a TSer pause.

I think Wally has the idea…FRAGILE?…maybe they can easily break their way through the stuff?

If that was anything natural, it would have started as hills and dynes first.

A hive construct of some kind maybe, like a termite nest or Sandking city.

If topsiders have satellites and our friends try breaking through, that is gonna leave a hell of a tell tale.

@wereman – not only a clean edge, but it seems to be slightly curved … as if the area of flat dust is a huge circle? Centered on what, I wonder?
