i think Mavis is mistaken if she thinks Velda is working with/for Jacob. If Velda hasn’t topped Mavis in the next few installments, she and we are in for a big reveal.
I wonder if either of them realize how severely Jacob’s authority has been curtailed by Security. If the weasel is a mole (good trick) she must know. She’s either independent of Jacob or will work with him to de-fang Security, IMO. Unsure which. Mavis’s group seems to have a lot of contacts, so they should have some idea of Jacob’s limitations, but that info hasn’t filtered out to Mavis yet. Too damn complicated.
“The others….” Mavis so dead. Obit will read…..”Drank too much wine mourning Foxworthy’s dead. Slipped and fell striking her head on the coffee table. Discovered by her best friend and confidant Velda VanderWeasel.”
I wonder what Velda and Jacob’s ambitions are ultimately… This conversation implies it was about more than just seizing power, which they already did anyway. So, what could their endgoal be?
Mavis was trying to bring Jackrabbit down. Therefore, she was probably the one leaking Foxworthy the incriminating but false documents. Where she got them from would be the question. Whether she forged them herself, knowingly creating misinformation, or Velda forged them and passed them on to Mavis is another question. If the latter, then Velda was using some deception, as Mavis knows Velda and Jackrabbit are together (which is no surprise to us readers). For example, Velda may have carried the forgeries with her, pretending they were confidential documents, and given Mavis the opportunity to secretly photograph or copy them. In that way, Mavis was used as a patsy. Mavis passed them on to Foxworthy, who was the fall guy. Jacob could then have him arrested for sedition and thus dispose of one of his opponents. What Jacob did not factor in was a) The pig murders, with Foxworthy being put in the frame by the perpetrators. b) The wolf uprising. c) The rat coup d’etat. I love anthropomorphic stories. It would be impossible to tell a tale like this using humans alone.
This looks like Mavis and Velda are on opposite sides. What is “all over”? Well, the wolf uprising is done, and the cannibal ringapparently is also done. were they part of the same plan? Apparently Jacob and Velda have some “ambitions” we haven’tseen yet (I have wondered why Jacob wanted to take over.) But Mavis is too dang sure that “the others” can stillcause trouble for Jacob. Who is in a position to do that? A rat—maybe not “The Rats”, but a single maverick? “The Rats”wouldn’t have to plot to get rid of Jacob. They could toss him off the balcony—and nobody could complain. But a single rat….
Velda wants to be one of the Players. But she forgets that smoking can be hazardous to your health. It can start a fire in the apartment after she konks Mavis. Maybe Mavis will go to bed later with a pounding headache, some pills and a cigarette.

Clever trick… Pour out all the wine before using it as a weapon. No wine stains to attract unwanted attention.

No need to empty the wine bottle; she slipped Mavis a micky, or she poisoned her.

Mavis apparently never really liked Velda, and Velda may have learned more about the operation than Mavis intended to let on. Let the cat fight begin!

Still hard to see what side she is on tbh. Could be backing the bunny just fine, or trying to cover her tracks.

Didn’t anyone teach Velda that you hold a wineglass by the stem to keep your hands from warming the wine?
