Used to work at an office where it was very casual (could wear shorts), and I would once and a while come in with a suit to be different.

We had a coder (developer) in our company that always used to wear a suit. Needless to say, the rest of us didn’t – being developers and all that. Anyhow, although he was good, he was no better than the rest of us, but he was always the one that got promotions. So clearly dress sense is important if you want to go up in the world. Image would appear to be more important that performance?

Back 50 years ago we used to have dress-up Fridays when we wore our best suits. How silly does that sound today?

We used to call management “The Suits”. When HQ execs came in to visit, we called them “Seagulls” – they fly in, crap all over us, and then fly home.
