I’m not into sports but it makes me think of how guys seem to identify with “their” teams so much like this that they act like they are part of playing the actual game, while I remember my mom’s oldest sister went through a period of time when she identified with her favorite soap opera to the point where she’d write to the characters, warning them and such, like telling a woman that her husband is cheating on her, etc.! She thought it was real!

Most soap opera fans don’t take it to that level, but seem to react in much the same way as the sports fans.

I’m puzzled: These are re-run strips now, maybe from early 1980s, eh? Where did that big, wide-screen, thinnish TV come from? What gives?

@ Vote: As I understand it, these aren’t reruns in the sense that they’re just cut-and-pasted from an old paper. From the FBorFW.com site: “Lynn is presently enjoying semi-retirement as she handpicks select FBorFW strips to be re-published in the newspapers and fills in the original stories with new art and insights.”

I’m on board with plus4,,,,and another scenario would be someone like my hubby who does love sports and also does not have the brain of a gerbil. Someone sounds bitter.

Well, I’m a woman and I’ve often been exhausted after watching my favorite team win a game (or even lose one). I agree that many people overdo their sports enthusiasm, but I feel sorry for people who have never known the excitement of having their team win a big game.

Old rotary dial telephones and slim, on the wall TV’s, do kind of jar the senses. Pick a decade and stick to it!

I’ve been on both sides of this, with sports and soaps. Some of us really tend to get into our interests in a big way.

This was a new comic, but it is based on one when Mike and Gordan were teenagers. Thats why it has the state of the art tv instead of the old clunker. I’ve been looking at Lynn’s strips and can tell very quickly which ones are new and which ones are reruns.

They were watching a hockey game and Mike and everyone was yelling and at the end Mike says “wow, we played a great game didn’t we?” Gordan turns to Mike and says “we didn’t do anything” I liked that one better then this.

    princepavel and Jimbag…

As a Blues fan, I hope you both lose! ;-)

What’s even worse is what I find myself doing… yelling at the TV with no one else around!

GO CANUCKS GO! CO CANUCKS GO! KICK SOME BLACKHAWK ARSE!!

And I agree, the LCD TV in 1970 wasn’t possible… Lynn dropped the ball … unless it’s “built into” the wall but still doesn’t explain the ‘wide screen 16:9 format’

Don’t lumps us all together ejcapulet, I really don’t care sports. I’ll play a friendly game of basketball of baseball with friends and family - the kind of games just kinda happen without planning and no one’s sure what the score is most of the time - but watching sporting events are indescribably boring.

I don’t see a rotary phone in this strip summerdog.

AllanVS, I don’t think it’s technically set in the 70s any more; Lynn has redone strips to make them more contemporary. I recall one a few months back, she changed the name of some celebrity John mentions to a modern celebrity (that wasn’t known at the time original came out) so people would get the reference.

ejcapule1 - Men with more brains than a gerbil are rare. This is because women prefer men with flashy cars, flashy clothes, smooth pick-up lines, square jaws, insincere flattery, or all of the above. Fortunately, a few perceptive women grow out of this stage by their 30s - or only gerbil brained men would be left.

ejcapulet says: Do ALL men have the have the brains of gerbils? Or is it just them? The size of gerbils’ brains are just like many tiny peas!

thestargazer1682: The strip you’re referring to originally mentioned that an applicant for a position in John’s office “looks like Cheryl Ladd”. The name was changed to Shania Twain in the updated version.
